Adam Wibert doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning and earned the win on the mound in the opener. Zach Rhodanz earned the save. Wibert struck out eight and walked four for the Mustangs (9-1). Brandon Arnold took the loss, striking out five and walking five. Quincy Brown doubled for the Raiders. In game two, Hunter Schoenfeld earned the win, striking out two and walking one. DaSean Gunther Putnam struck out eight and walked four in the loss. Cavin Stouffer, Jordan Adkins and Arnold had two hits each for the Raiders. Schoenfeld led the Mustangs with three hits and Brandon Smith had two. Wibert and Schoenfeld both had a double and two RBIs.

Kenston 10, Howland 2

KENSTON

Tyler Mintz hit a homerun and drove in four runs for Kenston. Howland got RBIs from Vincent Marimpietri and Garrett Deemer. Braden Gebhardt had six strikeouts for the Tigers.

Crestview 2, Edgewood 1

COLUMBIANA

Devin Turvey pitched a compelte game, allowing one run on four hits and striking out four for Crestview (10-2). Turvey also had a two run double. Keith Berger had one hit for the Rebels.

Lowellville 6, Western Reserve 3

LOWELLVILLE

Ricky Cutter’s RBI single in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie and Matt Hvisdak’s two-out triple in the sixth added some insurance runs for the Rockets. Bryan Harris struck out eight over 61/3 innings. Micah Mamula-Zarlingo and Jake Rotz each had two hits for Lowellville. Mamula-Zarlingo had a double and two RBIs. Cody Wise took the loss for the Blue Devils (6-3, 3-1 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference). He allowed four runs — one earned — on four hits and three walks. He struck out seven in four innings. Brycen Jackson hit a triple, drove in a run and scored for Western Reserve. Caleb Quinn went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Springfield 14, Mineral Ridge 0 Springfield 13, Mineral Ridge 1

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Chris Thompson earned the win in the Tigers the first game. He struck out eight in four innings of one-hit ball. Jake Carfalo took the loss, allowing 11 runs on eight hits and three walks in two innings. Brannon Brungard had three hits in the opener and followed with a two-hit game. In the second game, Mitchell Seymour had two hits while Drew Clark had two hits and three RBIs. Blaine Splinter and Wyatt Skunk had the only hits for the Rams. Springfield used three pitchers in the final game.

McDonald 9, Waterloo 2

ATWATER

Zach Nolf drove in two runs along with two hits for McDonald. Anthony Tamburro, Logan Shields, and Riley Lewis also had multiple hits. Shields added seven strikeouts for the Blue Devils. Matt Deangelis had three hits for Waterloo.

Jackson-Milton 10, Sebring 0

STRUTHERS

Nick Rich allowed just two hits and struck out four for Jackson-Milton (5-5). Rich also had two hits. Mason Robison struck out two and had two hits for the Blue Jays. Frankie Prozy drove in three runs. Sebring is 1-6.

Richmond Edison 5, South Range 4

RICHMOND

George Ash pitched a complete game for Edison, striking out three. Ash also had two hits. Trey Pancake and Jake Gehring had two hits each for South Range (8-2).

Beaver Local 15, Struthers 14

STRUTHERS

Dalton Curran led Beaver Local with three RBI. Ryder Saltsman had three hits for the Beavers. Billy Opritza drove in four for Struthers and JD Hall drove in three.

Lisbon 7, Minerva 6

MINERVA

Blake Reynolds, Nick Mundy, and Garrett Cox drove in runs for the Blue Devils in the second inning. Logan Bell hit an RBI triple to give Lisbon (5-6, 3-3 Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) a 1-0 lead in the first. Luke Kimble, Alex Kimble, Evan Hertle and Cole Maley drove in runs for the Lions. Bell pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. Charlie Bolanz took the loss for Minerva. He allowing five runs on four hits over 11/3 innings, striking out one.

Warren JFK 11, Avon 3

AVON

Cameron Hollobaugh had two hits — including a double — while driving in a pair and scoring twice for the Warren JFK. Six other JFK batters drove in one run. Hollobaugh also pitched two scoreless innings to open the game. AJ Arp entered in the third, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks. Arp struck out six in 31/3 innings.

SOFTBALL

McDonald 4, Waterloo 2

ATWATER

Bri Callow struck out 16 in a two-hitter as the Blue Devils (6-3, 6-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference) beat the Vikings (7-2, 5-1). Megan Ward singled, doubled and homered for McDonald. Lucy Wolford, Chelsea Sudol and Sierra Schrader each had two hits, with Wolford doubling twice. Amber Cieplinski hit a solo home run for Waterloo.

Poland 6, Steubenville 4

STEUBENVILLE

Ashley Wire pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs (11-0). Wire allowed one earned run on six hits and a walk. Cameron Lattanzio had two hits and four RBIs, including a game-winning RBI double. Ally Nittoli and Wire had two hits. KaiLi Gross had two doubles and a home run. Madison Fields went seven innings, allowing seven hits and a walk Steubenville (9-3). Lakyn Blackburn had a home run and two RBIs. Raven Shackleford-Banks had a hit and an RBI.

Poland 21, Wheeling CC (W.Va.) 1

STEUBENVILLE

Gross pitched five innings, allowed five hits and one run for the Bulldogs (10-0). Ally Davidson hit a home run for Knights (6-5). Abby Farber 3 for 3 three RBIs for Poland. Nittoli went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Jackie Grisdale had three hits.

Salem 17, Struthers 3

STRUTHERS

Hayden Carner and Jessica Slocum each homered for the Quakers (4-4). Elly Exline, Taylor Thorpe and Madison Markovich each had two hits. Rylie Troy pitched the final four innings striking out five and allowing no earned runs. Trinity Farrar, Alyssa Ferguson and Maddie Bova each had for the Wildcats.

Stow 3, Canfield 1 N. Canton Hoover 8, Canfield 0

NORTH CANTON

The Cardinals managed just one run in losing twice. Bridget Kelly had two hits for Canfield in the first game. Stow broke a 1-1 with two runs in the top of the eighth. Cardinals freshman Bayann Jadallah made her first varsity start and scattered six hits in the loss. She struck out five and walked one. Audi Collins and Jay Alexander each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Stow pitcher Macie Bell scattered seven hits. Mary Gomez had two hits for Canfield in the loss to Hoover. Laurel DeVoe homered, doubled and had five RBIs for the Vikings. Hoover pitcher Grace Vesco worked six innings, allowing just three hits and fanning eight.

BOARDMAN

Alaina Francis was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out 11. Caitie Perry drove in two runs for Mooney (11-1). Laura Lillibridge had two hits for Berkshire. In game two, Conchetta Rinaldi had two home runs for Mooney with four RBI. CJ Sapp added a home run and two doubles with five RBI. Perry drove in three runs on three hits and Maddie Filsky threw a no hitter.

Crestview 7, Edgewood 2

COLUMBIANA

Kaedyn Sutton pitched a complete game, striking out seven for Cresview (14-2). Taylor Mellington led the Rebels offense with two hits and an RBI. Sutton also had two hits. For Edgewood Katyln Ezzone, Claire Rudolph and Sara Drake each had 2 hits.

Springfield 3, Mineral Ridge 0 Springfield 5, Mineral Ridge 0

MINERAL RIDGE

Jacquie Kish had 12 strikeouts and Molly Pontius hit a two-run home run for the Tigers in the opener. Springfield pitcher Abby Joseph struck out 10 and allowed four hits in the second game. Joseph also hit a single and two doubles, drove in two runs and scored twice. Marlie Applegarth had two singles and three RBIs for the Tigers (7-6, 4-4 MVAC). Mineral Ridge’s Riley Ladd and Courtney Boyer both went 2 for 3 with two singles.

West Branch 16, Lakeview 3 West Branch 13, Lakeview 3

BELOIT

Delaney Rito, Riley Mesler, and Sydney Mercer drove in three runs each for West Branch (12-2) in game one. Cait Kelm had three hits for Lakeview (4-8). In game two, Delaney Rito had four RBI and four hits to lead West Branch. Sydney Mercer drove in three runs for the Warriors. Beady Titus had a hit and an RBI for Lakeview.

Western Reserve 1, Lowellville 0 Lowellville 7, Western Reserve 6

LOWELLVILLE

Jen Heater drove in the only run of the game for Western Reserve in game one. In game two, Lowellville won in eight innings, after trailing 6-2. Samantha Kelly hit a walk-off double for the Rockets. Morgan Donithan led Western Reserve with four RBI.

Bristol 15, Fairview 0

ELYRIA

Kendyl Switzer hit two homeruns and drove in six for Bristol. Alayna Sines added three hits and four RBI and Lindsay Miller drove in three runs.

McDonald athletes named Bulldog MVPs

EAST PALESTINE

McDonald’s Brody Rupe and Zach Gray were named boys MVPs at Saturday’s Bulldog Invitational at East Palestine High School. Rupe was the winner in the 800 and 1600 races and was a member of the winning 1600 and 3200 relays. Gray took first in the discus and second in shot put. The girls MVPs were Beaver Local’s Teddi Kinsey and Mathews’ Claire Miller. Kinsey won the 300 hurdles and finished second in the 100 hurdles and 200. Miller was second in discus and shot put.

Crestview runners set school record

CANTON

Crestview’s Ethan Powell, Jayce Meredith, Dylan Huff and Brandon Yanssens broke the school record for the 4x200 with a time of 1:30.2 at Saturday’s Canton GlenOak Eagle Elite meet.

CANFIELD

Stone Elias and Joey D’Apolito scored four goals each for the Cardinals (4-6). Joe Scoleri, Jeff Shawnessy and Jake Billak each scored once. Ryan Shidemantle made 12 saves.

Jillian Phillips, Jessica Taylor, and Zoe Simon scored goals for Poland. Catherine Sicafuse had six ground balls and Grace Scheck and Sarah Leach had three each. Abbi Aey made 18 saves in goal.
