YSU Jazz concerts announced

The Dana School of Music Jazz Studies has released its upcoming jazz concerts series dates. All events are free and open to the public.

The Jazz Ensembles, directed by Kent Engelhardt and Dave Kana, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

The program will feature music by YSU alumni David J. Perrico, Bryan Kennard, Sam Blakeslee and Stephen P. Harvey.

Performances featuring arrangements by current YSU students Matt Eustace, Herbie Hunkele, Colt Hutchinson, Matt Jackson and Nicholas Frank will also be featured.

Four Jazz Combos, led by Dave Kana and Chris Capizzi, will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 22 in Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater.

The concert will feature compositions and arrangements by YSU students Anthony Taddeo, Colt Hutchinson, Lucas Ciecielski, Herbie Hunkele, Isaac Hraga and Matt Jackson.

In addition to the live performances, there will be a screening of the short film “Swing Note.”

The film is a collaboration between YSU student composer Maxwell Franko and Point Park University student filmmaker Chris Copen.

The YSU Contemporary Ensemble, led by John Anthony, will present its inaugural performance at 7:30 p.m. April 25 at Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps Street, Youngstown.

The show will feature classic-rock styled compositions and arrangements by YSU students Taylor Natoli and Matt Jackson.
