Canfield High School hosted a signing ceremony to recognize three senior student athletes who will continue their academic and sports careers at the collegiate level on March 15.

Student athletes recognized were Kalin Kovach, Walsh University, softball; Sydney Schuler, John Carroll University, swimming and Julia Magliocca, University of Mount Union, cross country and track.

Canfield High School Athletic Director Greg Cooper welcomed the large crowd of family, friends, classmates and teammates to the ceremony.

“Good afternoon and welcome to our signing ceremony. Thank you very much for being here. The one thing these young ladies have in common is they have distinguished themselves as student athletes. Congratulations on what you have accomplished and good luck as you move on to bigger and better endeavors. As we recognize these athletes, we also need to recognize their parents, families and friends. They help make all of this possible,” Cooper said.

Cooper then gave each student athlete a chance to say a few words.

Softball player Kovach was up first.

“Thank you for being here today. I’d like to thank my friends, family and coaches for all their support throughout my journey,” Kovach said.

Swimmer Schuler followed with her thanks.

“Thanks for coming today and thank you for supporting my swimming all four years. I’d like to thank my mom and dad for all they do. Thank you everyone,” Schuler said.

Cross country and track athlete Magliocca wrapped up the speeches.

“I’d like to thank my family and friends. I’d also like to thank my teammates. I love you guys. Thanks to everyone for coming today,” Magliocca said.

Cooper closed the ceremony by highlighting Canfield’s strong girls sports program.

“These young ladies’ sports don’t get as much attention as football or basketball. But these athletes work as hard as any other athlete and they have excelled in their sport and at school. This also goes to show we have a very strong girls sports program here at Canfield. As strong as any girls sports program in the Valley, as exemplified by these three exceptional young ladies,” Cooper said.
