Youngstown State University Theater is teaming up with the Dana School of Music to present the Stephen Sondheim musical “Into the Woods.”
The show opens Friday and will run for two weeks in Ford Theater, which is in Bliss Hall. Matthew Mazuroski chairman of the theater and dance department, is directing the production, with Kivie Cahn-Lipan as music conductor.
Mazuroski said, “We are pulling out all the stops to bring the multiple Tony Award-winning show to the community,” said Mazuroski. “Audiences will experience the magic of this wonderful tale.”
The musical incorporates popular storybook characters into a tale that centers on one saying: Be careful what you wish for.
“This production marks the first fully collaborative musical to be co-produced by the theater and dance department and the school of music in many, many years,” said Mazuroski.
Cast members include Tristan Kile, Haley Tura, Daniel Navabi, AnnMarie Lowerre, Adam Dominick, Rosie Bresson, Makenzie Moorman, Sara Eckenrode, Maria Cicco, Ben Mowrer, Halla Henry, Jessica Hirsh, Anna Murcko, Jared Liscinsky, Malik Montgomery, Jordan Hazy, Noah Landry, Alex Kluchar, Mac Callahan, Monique Lopez and Lexi Denney.
The pit orchestra includes Herbie Hunkele, Sarah Schwenke, Ben Cross, Mckenzie Cooper, Elliot Kwolek, Frances Clause, Emily Nicolette-Fantin, Jeffrey Williams, Evan McCreary, Brendan McEvoy, Fiona Flannery, Emilee Rogers, Cas Stanaford, Hannah Shively and Sean Williams.
