DETROIT
The Youngstown State softball team’s 11-game winning streak was snapped after dropping a 5-0 decision to Detroit Mercy on Friday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark.
The Penguins fall to 15-18 overall and 4-1 in the Horizon League while the Titans improve to 14-20 overall and 6-4 in league play.
The Titans scored three runs in the bottom of the first and that was all the offense starting pitcher Ashley Mauser needed. Mauser struck out seven and allowed just two hits.
Detroit Mercy added a couple insurance runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.
Senior Paige Geanangel pitched 3.2 innings in relief and struck out two and did not allow an earned run.
The Penguins and Titans conclude their series today with a doubleheader starting at noon.
