Underground railroad lectures at Sutliff Museum
WARREN
The second annual “Nurturing Pathways to Freedom” lecture series of the Sutliff Museum,will kick off at 2 p.m. Saturday with a presentation titled “Spring Hill and the Underground Railroad” by Sammy Kay, director of Spring Hill Historic Home in Massillon,
Spring Hill was built in 1821 but the family that lived there opened the home up to freedom seekers before the door actually existed. This presentation will explore what the Underground Railroad looked like while it was still forming, plus the impact one family had on the area’s abolitionist activities.
This is the first of three free programs in the series, which will be presented in the Thomas Meeting Room on the second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. For information, go to sutliffmuseum.org or call 330-395-6575.
Pitbull concert to benefit officer
ORLANDO, Fla.
Rapper Pitbull will perform a free concert to raise money for an Orlando police officer who was injured in the line of duty.
The concert is planned for June 1 at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. Proceeds will benefit Officer Kevin Valencia.
Valencia was shot in the face during a domestic violence call that ended with Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. killing his four young children before turning the gun on himself.
Valencia has undergone several surgeries and has remained in a coma since the shooting. He was sent to Atlanta for treatment before returning home to Orlando.
