The theme will be “1970s Disco.” This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will host its 17th annual Spring Extravaganza Style and Creativity Show from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. May 4 at A La Carte Catering in Canfield. Be Kind To Your Mind, a Christian group, will meet at The Way Station, state Route 14, Columbiana, on Monday. This six-session group will include prayer, meditation, mindfulness and other resources for healing the mind and body. It will be led by Judy A. Boardman Historical Society will sponsor a lecture at 10 a.m. April 13 at the Boardman Public Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. Traci Manning, local historian and curator of education with the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, will give a presentation about “Founding Mothers: Great Women in Mahoning Valley History.” Catherine Dougherty-Hillman, Dora Schwebel, Mary Ann Campana and others will share stories and struggles. Niles Historical Society will host its annual spring banquet and fundraiser at 6 p.m. April 25 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre, 123 N. Main St., Niles. The speaker will be Sean Posey, historian and author of the books “Lost Youngstown” and “Historic Theaters of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.” The monthly open house of the Ward-Thomas House at 503 Brown Street will take place Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. with the last tour beginning at 4. The membership meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Westenfield Room. Society representatives recently participated in Historical Society Day at Park Vista in Youngstown where they presented items featuring Niles history. Plans are being made for Niles third-graders to visit the Ward-Thomas Museum in May to learn about local history. Society memberships cost $20 for an individual and $30 for a family. Salem Historical Society will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Dale Shaffer Library meeting room, 239 S. Lundy Ave. The public is invited for a presentation by Elisabeth Sayer on her book “Is Time Running Out?” and her personal experience with the Holocaust.

Youngstown Area PFLAG (Parents, Families, Friends, and Allies) is a support, education and advocacy group united with LGBT people to move equality forward. Support meetings are the second Tuesday of each month. PFLAG provides the opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and strives to create a society respectful of human diversity. Meetings are free and confidential.
