Boys track team improves record to 4-0

The Boardman High School boys track team improved its 2019 season record to 4-0 with a 78-54-32 victory over the Badger Braves and Youngstown Valley Christian Eagles on March 30.

The Spartans opened the meet by placing second in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of junior Mitchel Dunham, junior River Flatley, sophomore Justin Maloney and junior Lars Wieck. In the next event, the 110 meter hurdles, junior Brian Yauger placed third. In the 100 meter dash, sophomore Dawaylon Pritchard was second and senior Zach Hillard was fourth.

“We got out to a very slow start today,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Badger and VCS have some very talented athletes and our guys learned that you have to come ready to compete every single day.”

In the 1600 meter run, sophomore Beau Gorby took second, Wieck was third and senior Cameron Maloney was fourth. The 4x100 meter relay team of Pritchard, Hillard, freshman Anthony Hightower and freshman DJ Evans was second. Junior Isaiah Suarez placed first in the 400 meter run, sophomore Cristian Ortiz was second and sophomore Jonah Bacho was fourth. In the 300 meter hurdles, the Spartans took two scoring spots with Yauger in first and freshman Trey DePietro fourth.

In the 800 meter run, Wieck was second, Gorby was third and Cameron Maloney was fourth. The 200 meter dash had sophomore Brennan Stratton second and Pritchard tied for fourth. The next event was the 3200 meter run, which was won by Dunham with Justin Maloney third and sophomore Anthony Marshall in fourth. The 4x400 relay team of Stratton, Bacho, junior Alan Cuevas and junior Zander Schobel placed first.

In the field events, the Spartans took second and third in the long jump with sophomore Tyreek Jackson and Stratton.

In the high jump, junior Derrick Anderson placed in a tie for second and Hightower was fourth. In the discus, senior Nikitas Missos was first and senior Nathan Cornelius was fourth. Lonardo won the shot put with sophomore James Jama in third and Cornelius in fourth. Meet MVP Award went to both Suarez and Schobel.
