Girls junior varsity softball defeats Canfield

The Lady Spartans junior varsity softball team defeated Canfield 9-8 on March 26. Sophia Hoffman got the win on the mound. At the plate, Sam Hoffman was two for two and Josie Porter was two for three. Alyssa Olsen added a triple and Cassidy Bryan hit a walk off double at the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Girls junior varsity softball beats Windham High School

The Lady Spartans junior varsity softball defeated Windham 12-0 in five innings on March 28. Madison Lester got the win on the mound with nine strikeouts. The Spartans had a solid presence at the plate with Josie Porter going three for four and Morgan Cherne going three for three. Dana Haus and Lester had a triple, and Sam Hoffman had a double.

Boys varsity baseball falls to Jackson High School

The Boardman High School boys varsity baseball team fell behind early in their season opener and lost to Massillon Jackson with a score of 11-0 on March 23. Mason Smith took the loss for Boardman, lasting two and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out one. Dylan Gurski and Travis Harvey each had one hit for the Spartans.

Boys varsity baseball falls to Canfield

The Spartans dropped a hard fought game with the Canfield Cardinals 1-0 in the AAC opener for both teams on March 25. Tyler Peterson recorded 15 outs in five innings and had four strike-outs. Peterson, Marco Stilliana and Charlie Davis each had one hit to lead the Spartans hitting.

Boys varsity baseball loses to Walsh Jesuit High School

The Boardman Spartans boys varsity baseball team lost to Walsh Jesuit with a score of 6-0 on March 27. Dylan Gurski took the loss for the Spartans, surrendering two runs on one hit over two-thirds of an inning and striking out one. Luke Stauffer and Mike Fetsko each had one hit for the Spartans.

Girls junior varsity softball beats Canfield

The Lady Spartans junior varsity softball team jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first inning versus Canfield on March 25. The Spartans pulled out the win 15-14 and were led by Cassidy Bryan who was four for five at the plate with a double. Josie Porter and Sam Hoffman added a triple and double, respectively. Porter also got the tying run out in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game by throwing her out at home plate from left field. Morgan Cherne put the tag down to finish it off.

Boys varsity track finishes first

Boardman High School boys varsity track finished in first place at Tri Meet/Badger and Valley Christian with 78 points on March 30. Spartan Track improves to 4-0 after defeating the Badger Braves and Youngstown Valley Christian.

Boys varsity baseball beats Ursuline High School

The Spartans boys varsity baseball team beat Ursuline 15-5 on March 28. Charlie Davis drove in five runs on a double in the third, a single in the fourth and a single in the fifth. In the third inning, Travis Harvey singled on a one and one count, scoring one run, Davis doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Ty Ventresco singled on a one and one count, scoring one run. The Spartans tallied six runs in the fifth inning. Mike Fetsko, Dylan Gurski, Davis and Luke Stauffer all drove in runs. Mason Smith earned the win lasting five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out seven and walking one. The Spartans racked up 14 hits in the game. Davis, Harvey, Fetsko and Stauffer all had multiple hits with Fetsko, Harvey and Davis all having three hits each.

Girls varsity track takes first place

The Boardman Lady Spartan track and field team won a tri-meet against Badger and Valley Christian School 95-43-26 to raise their record to 4-0 on the season on March 30. The 4x800 relay of Hannah Ryan, Shayne Harris, Gina Gabriele and Isabelle Dwyer opened the scoring with a first place finish in 11:16. Kaylin Burkey and Keimanni Boyd continued the scoring with their first and second place finishes in 17.5 and 17.8, respectively. Destinee Hayes captured a second place finish in the 100 with a time of 13.9. The 4x200 relay of Sammy Aey, Jordan Solmen, Emma Tokarsky and Salina Jackson brought home a second place finish in 1:57.6. In the 1600, the quartet of Alayna Cuevas, Ryan, Dwyer and Bailey Moore swept the event. In the 400, Tokarsky won with a time of 65.4 with teammates Haley Ho and Jackson finishing third and fourth in 67.1 and 67.8. Burkey won her second event of the day with a first place finish in the 300 hurdles, her teammates Faith Colkitt and Gabbie Roller finished third and fourth to round out the scoring in the event. Raegan Burkey won the 800 in 2:28.3 with teammate Alayna Cuevas finishing second in 2:40.5. Hayes won the 200 in 28.6. In the 3200, Sophia McGee and Macy Potts brought home second and third place finishes. The 4x400 of Moore, Ho, Jackson and Tokarsky brought home a second place finish to round out the track scoring. In the field events, Emilt Carnahan won both the shot put and discus. The trio of Maddy Smith, Brigita Ositis and Ali Williams completed the sweep in the discus. Keimanni Boyd and Annia Robles finished second and third in the shot put. In the high jump, Ho had a third place finish and Lanny Kilpatrick had a fourth place finish. The final scoring event of the day was the long jump where Aey finished second and Markaysia Blackmon finished fourth. Kaylin Burkey is the team leader in scoring through two meets with 25 points, with Emily Carnahan in second with 20 and Destinee Hayes in third with 17.25.

Girls varsity softball beats Canfield

The Lady Spartans defeated the Canfield Cardinals in their second outing of the season by a score of 18-7 on March 26. Lauren Maughan had four hits and four runs batted in and Vanessa Roush scored three runs with three hits and two runs batted in. Alicia Saxton had four hits, scored one run and two runs batted in; Madison Lester scored two runs, had two hits and one run batted in and Ashley Saxton scored two runs with one hit and one run batted in. Jenny Taraszewski scored one run with two hits and one run batted in and Samantha Hey scored two runs with one hit. Kathryn O’Horo pitched the win for the Spartans and also scored one run, had one hit and one run batted in.

Boys varsity tennis beat by Howland

Boardman High School boys varsity tennis was beat by Howland High School with a score of 3-2 on March 28. In a close match, it came down to third singles for deciding point. Boardman came up short in a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 loss.

Girls varsity softball falls to Canfield

The Lady Spartans varsity softball team dropped an 11-9 decision to the Canfield Cardinals in their season opener on March 25. The Spartans were up 7-2 in the fourth inning when the Cardinals made a comeback.

Boys varsity track takes first place

The Boardman High School boys varsity track team finished in first place with 116 points at Tri Meet-Mooney/East on March 26. Spartan track begins the 2019 season with a 2-0 record after defeating both the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals and Lowellville Rockets at Spartan Stadium.

Girls varsity track wins season opener

The Boardman High School girls varsity track team finished in first place with 137 points at Tri Meet-Mooney/East on March 26. The Lady Spartans opened the season with wins over Cardinal Mooney and Lowellville high schools. The Lady Spartans took first place in 16 of the 17 events.

Boys varsity tennis team falls to Lakeview

The Boardman High School boys varsity tennis team fell to Lakeview High School with a score of 4-1 on March 27. Lone winners for the Spartans were Anthony Amendola and Miquel Santiago.
