Nineteen Austintown Middle School band students and one choir student participated in the OMEA District V Junior High Solo and Ensemble competition on March 30.
This experience provided the students with enrichment to develop their musical skills, confidence, solo and small group performance experience and exposure to various types of repertoire, specifically solo work and chamber music that they usually do not encounter in the larger ensemble.
The Austintown Middle School music program will host a celebration in the community and among their musical department to acknowledge the dedication these students put forth in the OMEA competition at 7 p.m. on April 10, in the Austintown Middle School Cafetorium.
The Middle School Solo and Ensemble Recital Night will feature students of the Austintown Middle School bands and choir, Austintown Middle School Falcon Chorale, select Fitch band ensembles, in addition to performances by the music department’s faculty including Mrs. Megan Keown, Mr. Jeremy McClaine and Mr. Bill Klein.
It is the goal of the Austintown music educators to bring a greater unity to the music department by joining various ensembles in this concert. It will provide middle school students with an opportunity to demonstrate their musicianship to a wider audience and diversify their musical experience by observing the performances of their peers, especially those in ensembles other than their own. Performances by the department faculty will foster ‘teach by example’ and ‘lead by example’ philosophies, which will encourage Austintown students on their musical journeys.
“This recital night is a new initiative, and we hope the community comes out to support our young musicians. They have worked incredibly hard on their solo and ensemble pieces. It’s going to be a great concert,” McClaine said.
Admission is free for this event and refreshments will be provided.
