Artist will make, sell prints at YSU event

A new Red Press Collaborative installment featuring guest artist Sarah Marshall will take place Monday in Room 4025, Bliss Hall, on the Youngstown State University campus. Guests may stop by any time from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. to observe the printmaking process.

Marshall will present a lecture at 5:10 p.m. in the McDonough Museum of Art. All events are free to the public.

YSU art students will collaborate with Marshall to produce a limited-edition print, which will be pre-sold during the event for $125. All proceeds will support students of the YSU printmaking program and the print collaboration.

The Red Press Collaborative is a program designed to promote fine-art printmaking at YSU and within the Mahoning Valley.

A limited-edition signed, numbered and documented print is created through the collaboration between a visiting guest artist of international scope assisted by YSU art students. Various printmaking methods, such as intaglio, relief, lithography, screenprint and digital printing will be used.

Sarah Marshall is an art professor at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She received her bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a masters from the University of Iowa.

Influenced by interests such as language, reading and book objects, architecture, and biological science, Marshall focuses on the processes of printmaking and drawing.

Her works on paper show organic forms that become portraits and characters.

Repeated in various environments, these characters examine ideas about decision making and the ways we treat each other. Her prints and drawings reference the physical world through plant forms, animal forms and the figure.
