The Hubbard Conservation Club, 1760 Wick-Campbell Road, is offering these free fall events:

Concealed-carry class

Leetonia

The Leetonia Sportsmen’s Club, 311 E. High St., will have a concealed-carry class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. The class starts promptly at 8, so attendees are asked to arrive no later than 7:30.

Cost is $80. Make checks payable to the Leetonia Sportsmen’s Club. Refreshments, lunch and study materials will be provided.

Participants should bring a handgun, 200-plus rounds of ammunition and eye and ear protection.

Home defense

Niles

Western Reserve Fish & Game, 1058 W. Third St., will have a home-defense class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

The class covers topics that include alarms, structural reinforcements, cameras and proper firearm selection.

There will be a question-and-answer session on the Castle Doctrine in Ohio.

The club will provide firearms, ammunition and safety gear. Participants may bring their own firearms to the class. Be prepared to go outside.

The cost is $50. Mention you learned about the class from The Vindicator and get a $5 discount.

Gun show

West Middlesex, Pa.

Hidden Valley Sportsmen’s Club, 268 Gilkey Road, will have a gun and sporting-goods show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $5; children under 12 are admitted free and must be accompanied by a paying adult.

CCW class

New Middletown

The New Middletown Farmers & Sportsman’s Club, 3341 E. Calla Road, will have a one-day CCW class at 8 a.m. today.

Cost is $90 and includes books, targets, coffee, muffin, hot dog, water and coffee. A $20 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold a spot in the class.

Shooting clinic

Niles

Starting Monday and running every Monday through Nov. 19, the coaches and volunteers of the Civilian Marksmanship Program at Western Reserve Fish & Game Association, 1058 W. Third St., will conduct a shooting clinic for youths age 10 to 18 who are interested in participating in Olympic-style target shooting.

Successful participants may want to join the club’s competitive CMP team, the Eagles.

The eight-week course will cover firearm safety, maintenance and marksmanship. Participants will spend four weeks with high-powered, sophisticated .177-caliber air rifles and four weeks with precision “small bore” .22-caliber single-shot rifles. The club will provide all safety gear, ammunition and firearms.

Sessions take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per session. A parent or legal guardian must accompany a participant to the first session. They also are encouraged to visit at the club during all sessions.

CCW/CHL class

Niles

Western Reserve Fish & Game, 1058 W. Third St., will have a one-day CCW/CHL class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Saturday.

The class exceeds the requirements for obtaining a concealed handgun license in Ohio.

The club will provide all educational materials, use of handguns, ammunition, safety gear and refreshments and lunch.

Cost is $70. A $20 deposit is required.

Fall turkey shoots

The Lowellville Rod and Gun Club, 6225 Quarry Road, will have fall turkey shoots through Nov. 20.

Sign-ups are at 6 p.m., and shoots are at 7. Shells are provided at $2 per shell. There will be a novelty .410 shoot (guns will be available to use).

Rifle seminar

NORTH JACKSON

Youngstown Rifle & Pistol Club Inc., 8920 Shaffer Road, will host its high-power rifle seminar at 8 a.m. Oct. 20. Rifles and ammunition will be supplied, but participants can take their own. Participants also should take a scope/binoculars, ear protection and a shooting mat or something to lay on. Eye protection is highly recommended.

Participants will shoot a 50-round National Match Course. The course will be fired at 200 yards standing, sitting, kneeling and prone positions. This clinic will satisfy the shooting requirements toward the purchase of a government surplus M-1 rifle from the CMP.

Cost is $30 for adults and $10 for juniors (18 and under). Pre-registration is required, and lunch will be provided.

Western Reserve Fish & Game, 1058 W. Third St., will have free Ladies Days on the club’s indoor range beginning Oct. 7 and running through October and November, from 1:00 to 3:00. We provide firearms, ammunition, safety gear and light instruction. Participants may bring their own handguns.

The Ladies Days program is set on a three Sunday rotation. You do not need to participate in any order. Our first Sunday deals with general firearms safety, range orientation and live fire with semi automatic pistols. Our second Sunday covers a brief discussion of the “Castle Doctrine”, a review of safety and live fire with revolvers. Our third Sunday is reserved for personal firearms selection discussions and live fire with a cross section of carbines and specialty long guns. No males, other than club personnel, will be involved in these sessions
