Society to sponsor Oktoberfest in Warren

The Trumbull County Historical Society will celebrate Oktoberfest on the Square and announce an expansion of its facilities from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday. The announcement will be made at 6:15 followed by a traditional Oktoberfest “tapping of the keg” by Mayor Franklin.

The event will include music by the Youngstown Saxon Brass Band, German-inspired food by local eateries, more than 12 types of beer by local breweries and activities including a junior and adult grape stomping competition, strudel baking competition, and an alp horn-blowing contest. Tickets include all-you-can-eat and two drink tickets.

Annual Heart Walk

More than 2,000 Mahoning Valley residents are expected to raise their heart rates, awareness and funds for the American Heart Association at the 2018 Tri-County Heart Walk to take place Saturday at the WATTS at Youngstown State University.

The festival area will open at 9 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 9:45 and the walk at 10. Individuals and teams can register online at www.heart.org/mahoningvalleywalk. The annual event is among 300 Heart Walks held in communities across the nation, where nearly 1 million people walk each year to cure heart disease and stroke. This year’s event aims to raise $300,000. The walk is locally sponsored by Steward Health Care System and Mercy Health, with media support from WKBN-27 and iHeartRadio.

YMTA to host recital

Youngstown Music Teachers Association will host its student recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Butler North Church, 524 Wick Ave. YMTA’s Butler North recitals have multiple students playing from age 5 through 18, which is open to all instruments. Villa Maria Harvest Day honors heritage

The 19th annual Villa Maria Harvest Day, a family event dedicated to honoring the agricultural heritage of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Villa Maria Farm, 225 Villa Marie Road.

The family-centered event will include live music by The Yurco Boys, hayrides, farm-fresh food, baked goods, face painting, children’s activities, educational activities, vendors and a gift-basket raffle. Special entertainment will be provided by the Villa’s own Jot the Clown. The Villa Market Barn will be open for purchases of seasonal produce, pumpkins, straw bales, corn stalks, mums, and more.

The Villa Shoppe will offer a wide selection of Fair Trade purses, jewelry, baskets, scarves, and books. Participants are asked to take a donation of canned goods. MS SUPER WALK set for Saturday

The 27th annual Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency SUPER WALK will take place Saturday at the Greenway Trail, 232 South Market St. The walk will begin at the historic railway station and participants will walk by Beaver Creek. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10. This is the local SUPER WALK, in which 100 percent of the proceeds stay in the community to help serve individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis. Call 330-533-6772 with questions.

Library to host puzzle exchange Saturday

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a fall jigsaw puzzle exchange from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Quaker Room. Legacy Dog Rescue to host Yappy hour

Legacy Dog Rescue will host Yappy Hour at Myrddin Winery, 3020 Scenic Drive, from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. For $10, participants get three tastings and a glass of sangria. Ice cream will be available for an additional charge to make a float. For $5, dogs can get their own meal and pup-safe drink.
