Girls cross country takes eighth in championship

The Austintown Fitch girls cross country team competed in the Suburban League Championship Meet with an eighth place finish out of 24 teams on Sept. 19. Leading the way for the Falcons were Kristin Yeager (20:47 - eighth), Gretchen George (22:02 - 25th), Ashley Fuller (22:34 - 36th), Natalia Novicky (24:38 - 90th), Julia Mahan (24:53 - 100th), Faith Marscio (25:13 - 106th), Trinity Niznik (25:37 - 117th), Sarah Pitko (26:58 - 144th), Rebecca Suy-Trigg (27:00 - 145th) and Sophia Sebediak (27:01 - 147th). A total of 273 runners completed the race.

Girls varsity cross country places fourth

The Austintown Fitch girls varsity cross country team placed fourth out of ten teams at Sept. 11’s meet. Leading the way for the Falcons were Kristin Yeager (21:05 - sixth), Gretchen George (22:40 - 10th), Ashley Fuller (23:16 - 16th), Natalia Novicky (25:08 - 50th), Faith Marscio (25:36 - 56th), Julia Mahan (25:37 - 57th), Kayla Olinik (25:42 - 63rd), Trinity Niznik (26:08 - 65th), Brittany Christmas (26:27 - 72nd) and Alyssa Ruggles (26:33 - 76th). A total of 187 runners completed the race.

Girls varsity cross country competes in Spartan XC Invitational

The girls varsity cross country team competed in the Spartan XC Invitational on Sept. 15. There were more than 7,000 runners competing in this competition. Leading the way for the Falcons were Kristin Yeager (20:50), Ashley Fuller (22:59), Julia Mahan (25:15), Kayla Olinik (25:42), Natalia Novicky (26:19), Faith Marscio (26:20), Sarah Pitko (26:42), Sophia Senediak (28:07), Rebecca Suy-Trigg (28:12) and Chloe Sima (28:41).

Girls soccer ties Boardman

The Austintown girls soccer team tied Boardman 1-1 on Sept. 24. The Boardman Spartans scored midway through the first half and held onto a 1-0 lead at halftime. With 10 minutes to go in the second half, the Falcons’ Katlyn Klasic scored the game tying goal with an assist from Gretchen George. The junior varsity girls defeated Boardman by a score of 2-1 with goals from Mackenzie Hartman and Sylvia Direnzo. Both goals were assisted by Moira George.

Girls varsity soccer ties Glenoak

On Sept. 22, the Austintown Fitch girls varsity soccer team tied Glenoak 1-1. The Falcons surrendered a goal at the midpoint of the first half and trailed the Golden Eagles by a score of 1-0 at the half. The Falcons turned it around in the second half when Sydney Spencer tied the match with an assist from Katlyn Klasic in the 12th minute. In junior varsity action, Mya Kaschak scored her seventh goal of the season (asst. Megan Bartley) to lead the Falcons past Glenoak by a score of 1-0.

Varsity boys soccer has loss to Glenoak

The Fitch boys soccer team lost to Glenoak 6-4 on Sept. 22 after a 3-4 halftime score. The boys junior varsity team won 3-2. Fitch goals were scored by Dom Foley (2) and Andrew Lecscak (2). Dom Foley also contributed two assists. Saves for Fitch were by Cam Ashley (11) and Carlo Walters (3).

Girls varsity has loss to Louisville

On Sept. 22, the Austintown Fitch girls varsity volleyball team lost to Louisville in four sets: 25-23, 18-25, 17-25 and 27-29. Top players for Fitch were Lainie Simons with 19 digs, six kills and three aces; Makayla Zets with 18 digs and eight kills; Emma Bartlett with 25 assists and three kills and Cate Maguire with five blocks and four kills.

Boys golf ties Canfield on Sept. 18

The Austintown Fitch boys golf team, led by Dom Kapics (44) and Nate Cene(44), ended up in a tie against Canfield on Sept. 18. The Falcons led by 16 strokes until Canfield carded a 42 to tie the match. It then went down to the fifth man’s score and Austintown was defeated on a tiebreaker. Cory Stien - 46, Dylan Wrona - 50, Dylan Roby - 57 and Jacob Lanterman - 60 rounded out the Falcons scores.

Fitch boys soccer victorious over Lakeside

On Sept. 20, the Fitch boys soccer team won 3-0 against Lakeside after being up 2-0 at halftime. Scoring for the Falcons were Dom Foley (2) and Nick Mortaro. Sophomore Marcus Debaldo had two assists with the Fitch keeper Cam Ashley having one save in the shutout. Lakeside keeper Cristian Munoz had five saves. Fitch’s junior varsity team beat Mineral Ridge 4-0.

Girls soccer has loss to Howland

The girls varsity soccer team at Austintown fell to Howland 2-1 on Sept. 19. After trailing by a goal at halftime, the Lady Falcons managed to tie the game early in the second half with a goal from an Abby Knight free kick. With 12 minutes remaining in the match, Howland managed to score their second goal of the match and held on to a 2-1 lead until time expired. In junior varsity action, the Falcons fell behind 2-0 in the first half but came back strong in the second. Emma Griffith scored an unassisted goal to put the Falcons on the board 10 minutes into the second half. With under a minute remaining in the match, a Jocelyn Gabriel penalty kick was deflected by the Howland goalkeeper but Gabriel followed her own shot and finished the goal to end the game in a 2-2 tie.

Girls volleyball has defeat

The Austintown Fitch girls varsity volleyball team fell to East Liverpool 3-0 on Sept. 18. Top players for Fitch were Lainie Simons with 19 digs and seven kills and Taylor Bailey with 14 digs.
