Niles Friendly Squares will host square dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Niles SCOPE Center. Lessons will be offered for beginners. No dance experience is required. FUNDRAISERS

Canfield Historical Society will host “A Step Back in Time,” a fundraising event, Saturday around Canfield’s central green. The history walk will guide visitors through Canfield’s past, from early pioneer days to the early 20th Century. Local volunteers will portray historical persons and events. Re-enactments will include an action-packed bank robbery, the fatal shooting of Canfield Sheriff Cone, the funeral of Elijah Bond and more. Four tours will be available beginning at 4 p.m. with the last tour departing at 5:45, rain or shine. The tours have a special walk/dinner package available. Polish Americans of Lawrence County will present the 28th Annual Lawrence County Polish Day from noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at Cascade Park Pavilion in New Castle, Pa. This year’s featured entertainment will be Lenny Gomulka and Chicago Push along with Rob Mazur and Polish New Castle Radio. Food will be provided by Krakus Deli. Rotary Club of Boardman will host the 42nd annual Oktoberfestival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Boardman Township Park. Admission is $5 per person, and children 12 and under will be admitted free. More than 130 vendors are expected from artisan, craft, commercial and nonprofit organizations. A food court will be set up in the park offering traditional carnival and fair food. Entertainment will be provided by local groups, including the Boardman High School Marching Band. The Oktoberfestival is the largest fundraiser for Boardman Rotary. Free and handicapped parking is available on the west side of the park and off-site parking will be available at the new Southwoods parking lot. Busses will be running between Southwoods and the park.

St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, will host a ticket raffle at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 in the church hall. Doors open at 5:30. Cost is $10 for a paddle, and additional paddles will be for sale for $1 that evening. Guests may take snacks and refreshments, and concessions also will be available. Struthers Historical Society will host Alexander Frankfort Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Frankfort House, 50 Terrace St. There will be infantry demonstrations, American Indian displays, a rope walk and museum tours. Re-enactments will be featured by the Shriver Grays, 27th VA Co. G Reeneactors; Sons of Confederate veterans; Boy Scout Troop 101; and a special appearance by Steffon Wydell Jones, a local researcher and one of the founders of the 5th United States Colored Infantry Regiment re-eenactment group.

Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a “Donate a Hot Dog” campaign to help provide food to the area’s homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie’s customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

TRIPS AND TOURS

Ohio Living Senior Center will host a trip to Meadows Casino Wednesday. There are two locations for pickup: at 8:30 a.m. at Ohio Living Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown; and 9 a.m. at Youngstown Skate, 7080 Tiffany Blvd., Boardman.
