Mineral Ridge football coach Steve Wyllie will not be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

Wyllie was placed on paid administrative leave on Thursday for a personal matter. Assistant coach Andy Apisa was named the interim head coach.

Weathersfield Superintendent Damon Dohar said the school is conducting an investigation. Dohar said the paid leave is indefinite and the probe will be concluded as quickly as possible.

Mineral Ridge athletic director Tim Porter said all questions regarding Wyllie should be directed to Dohar since it is “a school-related issue” and declined to comment.

Wyllie did not comment on the situation and said he’s on leave for a “personal matter.”

A 1992 graduate of Mineral Ridge, Wyllie was hired as the Rams’ coach in January 2017 and is employed as an English teacher at the school.

The Rams have gone 6-8 in 14 games under Wyllie, including an 0-4 start this season.

Prior to coaching the Rams, he was an assistant at Ursuline and Jackson-Milton before becoming the head coach at Garrettsville Garfield in 2005. He stepped down as coach of the G-Men after the 2012 season.
