Alzheimer Network to host workshops

The Alzheimer Network will present three workshops to prepare families to deal with the changes brought on by the disease. The workshops will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 at the Boardman Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. Registration is required. Call the Alzheimer Network office at 330-788-9755. The workshops are free to attend.

The first session will be learning what community services are available to help make informed choices.

The second session will profile the symptoms and behavior changes as well as the medications used to slow down the diseases progression.

The third session will guide caregivers in learning to cope with the impact the disease has on their own lives.

Interactive workshop planned for Wednesday

AUSTINTOWN

Family First Adult Day Services, 4199 Kirk Road, will host Self-Care for the Caregiver as part of its monthly Caregiver Series from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Shannon Lehn will lead the workshop.

Rotary club to host community yard sale

EAST PALESTINE

The East Palestine Rotary Club will host its 13th annual Community Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at East Palestine City Park, 31 Park Ave.

Vendors will sell antiques, toys, clothing, furniture and more. Admission and parking are free. The Rotary will have its food trailer open and there will be hot dogs, nachos and cheese, muffins, cookies, chips, candy, pop, Gatorade, coffee, hot chocolate and water.

There also will be a 50-50 raffle. For information, call Bonnie Davis at 330-271-1979. Vendors may register the day of the event.

Library to host discussion group

SALEM

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host its book discussion group at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the adult reading area located on the library’s upper level.

Parched after a two-year drought, the Australian town of Kiewarra is the setting for Jane Harper’s novel, “The Dry.” The book is available to borrow in the adult services department.

JCC to offer classes

YOUNGSTOWN

The Jewish Community Center is offering taekwondo classes. Instructor Tom Ritchie, a kukkiwon-certified fifth degree black belt, has been teaching Olympic-style taekwondo for more than a decade.

The Lil Dragons class for children age 5 to 8 will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 5:45 p.m. beginning Tuesday. Cost is $75 per month for members and $99 per month for nonmembers.

The All TKD class for children 9 and up will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday. Cost is $97 per month for members and $129 per month for nonmembers.

Uniform cost is $45. Those who sign up for six months will receive a free uniform. Register at jccyoungstown.org or contact 330-746-3250, ext. 195.
