Writers to visit Lit Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN

Lesley Nneka Arimah and Jon Kerstetter will headline Lit Youngstown’s Fall Literary Festival this weekend.

Minneapolis-based Arimah is the author of the collection “What It Means When a Man Falls From the Sky” (Riverhead, 2017), a National Book Foundation honoree and winner of the 2017 Kirkus Prize. She will read and discuss her work at 7 p.m Friday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. A question-and-answer period will follow, moderated by area writer Bridgid Cassin, and a reception will follow.

Kerstetter, the author of “Crossings: A Doctor-Soldier’s Story” (Random House 2017), received his medical degree from the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn., and served as a combat physician and flight surgeon for the U.S. Army in Iraq. His writing has appeared in The Best American Essays, River Teeth, and other literary journals. He will read and discuss his work at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s.

Lecture on media, business archives

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s next Bites and Bits of History lunch program will be at noon Thursday at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown. Bill Lawson, executive director of MVHS, and Connie Jones, project manager of the society’s Business and Media Archives, will discuss highlights of the collection.

The archives includes business records, marketing materials, broadcasting equipment, radio recordings and extensive television news film and videotape libraries from WKBN and other local media outlets.
