Area teams keep lofty poll positions


Canfield moves to No. 2; Hubbard, Poland hold spots

Local football teams held on to their positions in the Associated Press Ohio High School polls.

The second round of polls were released on Monday.

In Division III, Canfield received one first-place vote with 181 points to move up to second place. Canfield beat Lakeside 47-20 to remain undefeated. The Cardinals will play at Struthers this weekend.

There wasn’t any movement by Hubbard and Poland compared to the first poll.

Hubbard remains third in Division IV with three first-place votes and 167 points, and Poland is fourth with 139 points.

Hubbard beat Lakeview 48-7 and will travel to Howland this weekend. Poland also remains undefeated after beating Howland 34-0 last Friday. The Bulldogs will host Alliance on Friday.

In Division V, LaBrae received five first-place votes and is still third with 154 points. The Vikings beat Campbell 73-0 and will host Champion this week.

Springfield dropped from sixth last week to seventh on Monday. The Tigers received one first-place vote along with 85 points. Springfield shut out Jackson-Milton 48-0 on Friday. The Tigers will host McDonald, who finished outside the top 10 with 17 points.

Southern is not far behind Springfield. The Indians moved up to eighth with 56 points. Southern beat Toronto 43-14 and will travel to Lisbon this weekend.

Valley Christian was 10th last week, but lost its top-10 status following a 36-6 loss to Gilmour Academy on Saturday. The Eagles received 14 points will travel to Mathews on Friday.

Austintown Fitch dropped out of the top 10 in Division I following a 49-14 loss to Warren Harding. The Falcons received 12 points. They will travel to East on Friday.
