Kidney Foundation to host fundraising event

The Eastern Regional Kidney Foundation will host its 8th Annual Kidney Awareness Walk and Renal Family Picnic on Sept. 23. Registration opens at 9 a.m. that day but can also be done in advance by visiting www.erkidney.org or calling 888-614-7313. Included in the $25 fee is a continental breakfast and picnic lunch. Children and patients under 10 are free.

The walk will begin at 11. T-shirts are available for pre-registered participants. Proceeds help dialysis and transplant patients in the Valley. The foundation gives about $30,000 a year in grants to those who qualify.

The 2018 honoree is Kyler Strotz, who was diagnosed with kidney disease as a freshman in high school. He contended with doctor visits, hospital stays, dialysis and a kidney transplant while still playing football and keeping his grades up.

The event will include a basket auction and raffle and a 50-50 drawing. Any businesses or individuals interested in donating a basket or item to be raffled should call the number above.
