The Sargents are honored for 65th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sargent were honored Sept. 8 at a dinner hosted by their children with family and close friends in attendance in observance of their 65th wedding anniversary.

Jay Sargent of Boardman and Donna (Doug) Gritton of Noblesville, Ind., are the couple’s children. Their grandchildren, Jessica (James) Gugert and Brent (Alison) Gritton, and their great-grandchildren, Derek and Emery Gugert, complete the family.

Mr. Sargent and the former Nancy Fernback were married Sept. 12, 1953, at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown.

Mrs. Sargent is a homemaker, and Mr. Sargent was a steamfitter with Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 87 in Boardman until he retired in 1990. He also served as an officer of Local 87 for 24 years.

The couple were longtime members of the Youngtown Maennerchor and multiple golf and bocce leagues. Both are avid sports fans.
