Polka party with Fred Ziwich band

A polka party and dance, sponsored by Peppermint Records of Youngstown, will take place Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Avon Oaks, 1401 N. State St., featuring Fred Ziwich and International Sound Machine, and also the Del Sinchak Band.

Rock gardening lecture at Fellows

Joseph Tychonievich will give a one-hour lecture on “Rock Gardening: Reimagining a Classic Style for Today’s Garden” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

This approach to gardening is water-wise, ideal for containers and small gardens, and for gardeners interested in exploring a whole new group of plants.

Tychonievich will share images of rock gardens, the basic principles of creating rock gardens and an introduction to some of the most beautiful and easy to grow rock garden plants.
