San Jose Sharks deal for Erik Karlsson

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The San Jose Sharks have acquired two-time Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Erik Karlsson from the Ottawa Senators.

The teams announced the trade Thursday.

San Jose is sending the Senators a first-round pick in 2019 or 2020, a second-round pick in 2019, forwards Chris Tierney, Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers, defenseman Dylan DeMelo and two conditional draft picks. The Sharks also get forward Francis Perron.

Ottawa gets a second-round pick in 2021 that becomes a first if the Sharks make the Stanley Cup Final and re-sign Karlsson or would receive a first-rounder in 2021 or 2022 if he plays for an Eastern Conference team this season.

Karlsson has one year left on his contract and has been the subject of rumors dating to the trade deadline. The Senators finally got a deal done on the eve of training camp.

Trial set for former Ottawa Senators exec

BUFFALO, N.Y.

A trial date has been set in a harassment case against former Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee.

Buffalo City Court Judge Amy Martoche on Thursday scheduled a non-jury trial for Nov. 9 on a violation charge of harassment stemming from an incident at the NHL scouting combine in May.

Lee faces up to 15 days in jail if convicted.

He declined to comment after Thursday’s hearing, during which Martoche dismissed one charge at the request of his lawyers, but let the other stand.

Lee is accused of making lewd comments and rubbing the shoulders of a 19-year-old male hotel shuttle driver while attending the pre-draft scouting combine in Buffalo. He’s pleaded not guilty.

Lee resigned from the Senators in August after 23 years with the organization.

Blues activate Fabbri off injured reserve

ST. LOUIS

The St. Louis Blues have activated forward Robby Fabbri off injured reserve before their first training camp practices.

Fabbri missed all of last season after re-tearing the ACL in his left knee. He originally tore the ligament Feb. 4, 2017, causing him to miss a sizeable part of the 2016-17 season.

The 22-year-old put up 29 goals and 37 assists for 66 points in 123 games with St. Louis before knee injuries put him on the shelf. If healthy, Fabbri’s return gives the Blues another offensive piece up front after signing Tyler Bozak and Patrick Maroon and trading for Ryan O’Reilly.

The Blues on Thursday also announced forward Nikita Soshnikov will miss the start of camp with a concussion he suffered while training.
