The 12th annual Paul Shelby Memorial Golf Outing will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 22 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St. Sign in begins at 9 a.m. The event is a four-man scramble with a shotgun start.

Cost is $260 per team. Registration and fees are due by Saturday. Participants must pre-register to receive the discounted price.

First- and second-place prizes (two divisions) include cash. An optional skins game is $40 per team. A hole-in-one contest will offer a $25,000 cash prize. Skill prizes include longest drive, longest putt and greenies. There also will be door prizes, a 50-50 raffle, beverages and food. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to become hole sponsors for $25, which will be donated to the Paul Shelby Scholarship Fund. For information, call Joe Shelby at 330-207-0857. Network Council will host ABW Day

CANFIELD

The Network Council of the Mahoning Valley will sponsor ABW Day. The event is to commemorate the founding of the American Business Women’s Association. The celebration will take place at A La Cart Catering on Sunday.

The speaker for the day will be Carla J. Baldwin, judge of Youngstown Municipal Court. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon to be served at 1. Menu includes roast pork, stuffed chicken breast, stuffed shells, mashed potatoes, assorted salads, coffee, tea, rolls and butter. Dessert will be Cherries in the Snow. DAR to host celebration

The Mahoning Valley Chapter of DAR will celebrate the signing of the Constitution with the ringing of bells at 4 p.m. Monday at the Road of Remembrance Rock on Market Street at Newport Drive. Members will read the preamble, which will start at 3:30. The public is encouraged to attend.

Charter signing set for new press club

YOUNGSTOWM

The Youngstown Press Club Board of Governors will host a charter signing event at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the McDonough Museum on the Youngstown State University campus. The concept of a press club in Youngstown dates back to the early 1900s, with the last iteration ending in the 1980s. In 2011, a group of Jambar alumni met and decided to restart the club to unite media professionals in the Mahoning Valley through fellowship and education. The charter event is the result of these renewed efforts. Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel will make brief remarks at the charter event. Membership categories include: journalists, authors, educators, public relations associates, advertising associates, students, public sector/nonprofit communicators, and those retired from any of these categories. Dues are $50, but in celebration of the charter signing event, the Youngstown Press Club Board has approved a $35 limited-time membership offer for those joining prior to Dec. 31. Those who join prior to that date will be designated charter members.
