Repaired Trumbull County Courthouse bell to be part of 9/11 remembrance

WARREN — The recently repaired Trumbull County Courthouse bell and carillon will be part of today’s remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America.

Tony Cornicelli, common pleas court administrator, said a Verdin Co. of Cincinnati representative came to Warren on Monday to help train Cornicelli and county maintenance employee Bill Hart on how to program the bell and carillon.

Several new chimes have been programmed and will be played starting today.

The carillon, which has eight speakers mounted on the outside of the courthouse, is an electronic device purchased by the Warren Rotary Club to play music that imitates bell sounds, such as the Westminster Chimes.

“God Bless America,” the national anthem and other music is programmed to play today, and the original 1895 courthouse bell will ring each hour.

It’s been about 20 years since the courthouse bell has been used more than just for testing.

Adjustments to the music list are likely to continue, Cornicelli said.
