TUSCALOOSA, ALA.

Tua Tagovailoa passed for three first-quarter touchdowns and Jalen Hurts added two more before halftime, combining to lead No. 1 Alabama to a victory over Arkansas State. Tagovailoa finished 13 of 19 for 228 yards and four TDs. Hurts was 7 of 9 for 93 yards. Najee Harris ran for a career-high 135 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Justice Hansen was 15 of 36 for 140 yards with a touchdown and interception for the Red Wolves.

No. 2 Clemson 28, Texas A&M 26

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS

Kelly Bryant threw for 205 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score to help No. 2 Clemson escape with a victory over Kellen Mond and Texas A&M. Mond finished with a career-high 430 yards passing and Rogers had 120 yards receiving and two TDs. Clemson’s vaunted defensive line helped the Tigers pile up 10 tackles for losses and four sacks.

No. 3 Georgia 41, No. 24 South Carolina 17

COLUMBIA, S.C.

Jake Fromm threw for 194 yards and a touchdown, all three of Georgia’s latest running combo scored touchdowns and beat No. 24 South Carolina. Fromm was 15-of-18 passing, including a 34-yard TD pass to Mecole Hardman. Elijah Holyfield led the way with 76 yards and a 5-yard score. D’Andre Swift had a 17-yard TD run. South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley threw for 269 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

MADISON, WIS.

Jonathan Taylor ran for 253 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 5 Wisconsin asserted its dominance after allowing a score on the game-opening drive, beating New Mexico. A.J. Taylor had 134 yards receiving and a score for the Badgers (2-0). Alex Hornibrook hit A.J. Lobos third-string quarterback Jones was 9 of 16 for 79 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

No. 6 Oklahoma 49, UCLA 21

NORMAN, OKLA.

Kyler Murray passed for three touchdowns and ran for two, and No. 6 Oklahoma defeated UCLA, but lost star running back Rodney Anderson to a leg injury. CeeDee Lamb had seven catches for 146 yards and Marquise Brown added 88 yards and a touchdown on four catches for the Sooners (2-0). UCLA freshman quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson completed 16 of 26 passes for 254 yards. Bolu Olorunfunmi ran for 56 yards and two touchdowns for UCLA.

No. 7 Auburn 63, Alabama State 9

AUBURN, ALA.

JaTarvious Whitlow ran for 122 yards and receiver Anthony Schwartz accounted for 117 total yards and two touchdowns to help No. 7 Auburn rout Alabama State. Starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham finished 6 of 11 for 113 yards with a passing and rushing score.

No. 8 Notre Dame 24, Ball State 16

SOUTH BEND, IND.

Jalen Elliott had a pair of interceptions that No. 8 Notre Dame turned into touchdowns and the Fighting Irish held off stubborn Ball State. After going the entire 2017 season and last week without an interception by a safety, Riley Neal who threw for 180 yards but completed just 23 of 50 passes. Irish quarterback Brandon Wimbush threw for 297 yards as Ball State registered four sacks and picked off three s passes.

SEATTLE

Jake Browning threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns, Ty Jones had two touchdown receptions , and No. 9 Washington finally pulled away in the second half for a victory over North Dakota. Browning was 23 of 37 passing with short TD passes to Jones and Cade Otton. John Santiago had 18 carries for 139 yards for North Dakota.

BATON ROUGE, LA.

Joe Burrow passed for two touchdowns and ran for a short score, and No. 11 LSU rode an opportunistic defensive performance to a victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Running back Nick Brossette was LSU’s most productive player on offense, rushing for a career-high 137 yards on 19 carries, including a 42-yard scamper. Burrow’s first TD pass went to Ja’Marr Chase.

No. 12 Virginia Tech 62, William & Mary 17

BLACKSBURG, VA.

Steven Peoples had two first-half touchdown runs and No. 12 Virginia Tech made quick work of William & Mary in a victory. Josh Jackson threw for one touchdown and ran for another for the Hokies (2-0). Peoples scored on runs of six and four yards and finished with six carries for 55 yards. Jackson was 12 for 16 for 217 yards, including a 39-yard scoring throw to Damon Hazleton.

No. 18 Mississippi State 31, Kansas State 10

MANHATTAN, KAN.

Nick Fitzgerald returned from a suspension two throw two touchdown passes, Kylin Hill ran for 211 yards and accounted for three scores, and No. 18 Mississippi State shut down Kansas State. Fitzgerald threw for 154 yards with TD tosses to Hill and Austin Williams. He finished with 159 yards rushing. Skylar Thompson was 7 of 17 for 86 yards and a touchdown while running for 34 yards, and Alex Delton was 2 of 4 for 14 yards for the Wildcats.

ORLANDO, FLA.

Adrian Killins Jr. ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns to help No. 19 UCF rout South Carolina State. Greg McCrae rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Otis Anderson added 42 yards and a touchdowns as UCF (2-0) racked up 315 rushing yards. McKenzie Milton was 21 of 39 for 243 yards with a touchdown pass. South Carolina State quarterback Tyrece Nick was 5 of 12 for 54 yards and an interception.

ANN ARBOR, MICH.

Shea Patterson threw three touchdown passes, one in each of the first three quarters, to help No. 21 Michigan coast to a win over Western Michigan. Patterson was 12 of 17 for 125 yards. Karan Higdon ran 140 of his 156 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. Higdon had a 67-yard TD run in the first quarter and Chris Evans scored his first of two TDs on a 27-yard run to put the Wolverines up 21-0.

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.

Malik Rosier threw for two scores and rushed for another, N’Kosi Perry came off the bench to throw the first three touchdown passes of his collegiate career, and No. 22 Miami beat Savannah State. Brevin Jordan had two touchdown catches and Lorenzo Lingard ran for two scores for Miami (1-1). Rosier completed 8 of 12 passes for 131 yards. Perry completed 9 of 14 passes for 93 yards, the three touchdowns and an interception.

No. 23 Oregon 62, Portland State 14

EUGENE, ORE.

Justin Herbert threw for 250 yards and four touchdowns before heading to the bench in the third quarter, and No. 23 Oregon routed Portland State. Herbert, who completed 20 of 26 passes against the Vikings, now has 10 total touchdowns. Portland State quarterback Jalani Eason threw for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Charlie Taumoepeau caught five passes for 125 yards and both TDs for his second-straight game with more than 100 yards receiving.

Kentucky 27, No. 25 Florida 16

GAINESVILLE, FLA.

Kentucky ended one of college football’s longest losing streaks by upsetting Florida in the Swamp. Terry Wilson accounted for three TDs, Benny Snell ran for 175 yards and the Wildcats beat the Gators for the first time since 1986. Kentucky hadn’t won in Gainesville since 1979. Wilson added for 105 yards on the ground. Wilson also completed 11 of 16 passes for 151 yards, with two TDs and an interception.
