The Boardman library hosted an event called Puppets! Puppets! Puppets! on Aug. 8.
The event was a puppet show that told multiple stories based on children’s books.
Two librarians, John Yingling and Amy Burkard, acted in the show, bringing to life classic children’s stories with a twist.
“We are both story tellers,” Burkard said, “We love to read books and we just wanted to do something different.”
The show told the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Bark George, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and Humpty Dumpty.
“We wanted to involve puppets but still tell stories,” Burkard said.
She explained that they chose to do stories that children already knew, but tell them from a different perspective to make them think differently about what telling a story means.
“We wanted to remind them that they do know these stories, and stories can be rewritten and there can be a twist.” Burkard said. “Maybe to inspire them to be story tellers too.”
The event took place during the same time as the libraries weekly story time event.
Burkard said this is because she wanted to do something new and exciting for the regular story time attendees, and add a few new people to the mix.
“We had a lot more kids, so I think just the interest of including puppets brought people out,” she said.
After the show the two librarians allowed children to come into the back of the set to play with the puppets.
Burkard said this is the second time they have held this event and that they usually offer it annually.
