Junior Mitchel Dunham took fifth overall out of 482 runners on Sept. 1 in a time of 16:37 at The Frank Gibas Invitational at Kenston High School in Chagrin Falls.

The Spartans finished eighth overall out of 23 schools and improved their varsity record to 32-11 for the 2018 season. The junior varsity squad placed sixth out of 13 schools in their race and is 18-12 so far this year.

Aiding in Boardman’s varsity score was sophomore Frank Bero at a new career best time of 17:11, which was good enough for 12th overall. He was followed by junior River Flatley at a time of 18:32, which earned the Spartan runner 69th place. Sophomores Caydin Newberry and Justin Maloney finished 70th and 89th overall, respectively, to round out the scoring for Boardman.

“We had decent day today,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Kenston made a few course changes from last year and it was a bit more challenging, still our guys put up some solid numbers against an extremely talented field.”

Setting new personal bests at Kenston were Bero and freshmen Dan Chiaberta at 23:46, Aiden Chunn at 25:58, Josh Cubarrubia at 25:50, Trey DePietro at 21:50, Jack Graff at 21:54 and Noah Shurrel at 23:38.
