Selah opens season with ‘Bakersfield’

Selah Dessert Theater will open its fifth season with the comedy “Bakersfield Mist.”

The play, written by Stephen Sachs. is loosely based on a true story about a tough talking, out-of-work bartender living in a trailer park in Bakersfield, Calif., who believes she has found an unsigned Jackson Pollock painting.

When an arrogant art critic visits to evaluate the painting, a battle of wits ensues with plenty of laughs.

The cast includes Denise Sculli and Terry Shears.

“This show has everything our audiences have come to enjoy,” said director Mary Ruth Lynn. “It addresses an interesting topic with humor and great storytelling.”

The play contains some strong language.

Pre-show music will include songs by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, founders of the country music style that was known as the Bakersfield sound.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 13, 14, 15, 21 and 22. The theater is on the second floor of Selah Restaurant, 130 S. Bridge St.
