Church burglar leaves apology note after theft of equipment

WATERBURY, Conn.

A man who broke into a Connecticut church and stole $3,000 worth of electronics apparently felt enough remorse to leave an apology note.

Police have released video of the man they say broke into Mount Olive AME Zion Church in Waterbury at about 1 a.m. Aug. 19 and stole cameras, monitors and a microphone used to broadcast religious services.

Members of the congregation tell WVIT-TV he also left a note that said “Pray 4 Me!! Sorry brothers. Save me,” and drew a little sad face.

Member Craig Smith says some members of the congregation heeded the note and prayed for the suspect at a later service.

Police asked anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact them.

Novelty hand grenades found in checked luggage

NEWARK, N.J.

Authorities say two suspected hand grenades found in a woman’s checked bag at Newark Liberty International Airport were actually novelty bottle openers.

Transportation Security Administration officials say the realistic looking replicas were found Aug. 21. The woman eventually was allowed to board her flight, but her luggage didn’t make it on the plane due to the delay at the screening area.

The woman’s name and the airline she was flying were not disclosed.

Officials say the bottoms of the fake hand grenades are hollowed out so they can be used as bottle openers. They note that the items come with a warning notice that tells travelers not to bring them into airports because they can look real to screeners using X-ray machines to scan luggage.

Tweet over deli packaging gets the attention of governor – and a change

CONCORD, N.H.

A supermarket customer’s tweet on stickers placed over the opening of bagged deli meats got the attention of New Hampshire’s governor, and a change.

NH1 reports Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith recently took to Twitter to ask that the company, Market Basket, not put the price tag stickers over the zipper of the meat bag. He said it’s impossible to open it without destroying the bag.

Gov. Chris Sununu responded, saying he has to re-bag cheese every time because of the problem.

Market Basket answered that it would speak to its deli departments about it.

Recently, both Smith and Sununu tweeted that the stickers were moved to the bag itself. Sununu said he was celebrating with grilled cheese for dinner.
