The Jewish Community Relations Council is sponsoring its 28th annual High Holiday food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

Donations are accepted through Oct. 1 at the Jewish Community Center, Altshuler Akiva Academy, Temple El Emeth, Congregation Ohev Tzedek, Congregation Rodef Shalom and Children of Israel Congregation.

New this year is a competition among area businesses, including the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation; the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown; Titan Construction; Suhar & Macejko; the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber; OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology; the Youngstown Phantoms and VEC, Inc.

Suggested items for donation include canned meat, fish and poultry; soap; toothbrushes; toothpaste; instant pancake mix; syrup; cleaning items; peanut butter; canned fruits and vegetables; paper products; cereal; rice; noodles; snack foods; baby food and formula; and instant coffee. Monetary donations should be made payable to the Second Harvest Food Bank and sent to JCRC, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.

Autism awards

YOUNGSTOWN

Nearly $1,000 from the annual Autism Walk/Run will be presented to area special education teachers by the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley through its Autism Teacher Mini Grant Program to help them expand student accommodations in their classrooms.

Awards were given in three denominations, $500, $250 and $100 to applicants from public and private schools in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.

Salem Regional joins Mercy Health network

Salem Regional Medical Center has joined Mercy Health’s Clinically Integrated Network Health. Clinically Integrated Networks bring together networks of physicians and hospitals that share responsibility for providing care to patients.

Participants in CINs share data as well as best practices in order to improve clinical quality and reduce costs for patients.

Salem Regional has joined the Mercy Health Select network as an independent community hospital, which will include its participation in value-based contracts that Mercy Health Select has with payers such as Medicare Advantage, commercial and Mercy Health employee health plans.
