MGCY confers scholarships

The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown recently awarded scholarships of $1,000 each to Olivia Dotson and Desiree Pinkerton. The two also received $1,000 scholarships from the national organization, The Gardeners of America. They both are students at Kent State University Salem, where Dotson is pursuing a degree in landscape/environmental design, and Pinkerton is studying for a degree in horticulture leading to a career with the national park service.

The Youngstown State University chapter of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars has been recognized as a Certified Gold Star Chapter for the 2017-18 academic year.

NSCS is a national, nonprofit, honor society that recognizes and elevates high achieving undergraduates who excel academically during their first and second year of college. With its three pillars of scholarship, leadership and service, NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service opportunities and gives out more than a million dollars in scholarships, awards and chapter funds annually.

The achievement of Certified Gold Star Chapter certification is reserved for chapters that demonstrate leadership in implementing engaging, student-centered events on their campus and in their local community, including a new member induction ceremony, Integrity Week and PACE, or Planning to Achieve Collegiate Success.

Students receive scholarships

GROVE CITY, Pa.

Simon, a global leader in retail real estate ownership, is supporting Simon Youth Foundation in its efforts to increase educational opportunities for students of all backgrounds through Simon Supports Education.

The movement incorporates several activations designed to engage shoppers in SYF’s mission. SYF operates more than 30 nontraditional high schools called Simon Youth Academies across the country. SYF also provides renewable scholarships to graduating seniors in communities where there is a Simon property. Since its inception in 1998, Simon Youth Foundation has helped more than 15,660 students at risk of dropping out of high school graduate and has awarded nearly $17 million in scholarships.

Simon Supports Education encourages shoppers to help SYF continue that legacy.

This year, Grove City Premium Outlets presented two students with scholarships. Dominic Velasquez from Western Reserve High School in Berlin Center was awarded a $1,500 scholarship. Velasquez plans to study chemistry at Ohio State University. In addition, Braden Meyerl from Grove City Area High School in Grove City also received a $750 scholarship, which he will use to study architecture at Kent State University.
