Local author to give lecture on city’s history

Local author and historian Sean T. Posey will give a presentation at 10 a.m. Saturday at Boardman Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave., as part of the Boardman Historical Society’s public lecture series.

Admission is free, but reservations are suggested. Call board member Dona Hammond at 330-726-0651 to reserve a seat or for information.

Posey will speak on his book, “Lost Youngstown,” and will recall former landmarks such as Idora Park, McKelvey’s Department Store, and the Palace, State and Paramount theaters.

Posey is also the author of “Historic Theaters of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley.” A resident of Youngstown, he is a graduate of the photojournalism program at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, and also has a master’s degree in history from Youngstown State University.

Posey’s work has been featured in a variety of publications, including The New Republic, Citylab, Salon and Moyers and Company, where he worked on campaign coverage for the 2016 presidential elections.

“Lost Youngstown,” published in 2016 by the History Press, was Posey’s first book.

“Historic Theaters of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley” was released by the History Press, in May 2017.

Copies of his book will be for sale after the program.

The Boardman Historical Society maintains a museum of local artifacts at Boardman Park, in the historic Detchon House. The society was instrumental in the purchase of St. James Episcopal Church, which it moved to Boardman Park, and renamed the St. James Meeting House.
