Pittsburgh 33, Albany 7

PITTSBURGH

Kenny Pickett threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and Pittsburgh breezed past Albany. Pickett completed his first 13 passes and finished 16 of 22 for 154 yards. He hit Rafael Araujo-Lopes twice for scores in the second quarter, the first on a 3-yard lob and another on a 42-yard catch-and-run in which Araujo-Lopes did most of the work. Qadree Ollison ran for a team-high 73 yards for Pitt, who gashed the Great Danes for 238 yards on the ground. Vincent Testaverde, son of former NFL quarterback Vinny Testaverde, passed for 263 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in his first start for Albany.

Wittenberg 28, Westminster 21

SPRINGFIELD

Wittenberg quarterback Jake Kennedy threw for 230 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Former Brookfield quarterback Augustus Necastro thrw for 164 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions for Westminster (0-1). Ursuline graduate Tyree Reeder made two tackles and East graduate John Fitzgerald made three tackles incuding a sack.

Wooster 44, Bluffton 34

BLUFFTON

Antonio Bailey ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries for Wooster. Fighting Scots quarterback Caden Croft completed 22 of 33 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Bluffton quarterback Plummie Gardner completed 16 of 29 passes for 298 yards and five touchdowns. Canfield graduate Angelo Petracci recorded three tackles and Mark Herron, a Chaney graduate, recorded one.

Alfred 44, Thiel 16

ALFRED, N.Y.

Thiel trailed 7-2 after the Bobcats scored on a saftey with 6:16 left in the first quarter. But Alfred (1-0) outscored Thiel (0-1) 21-0 in the second. Marko Bakovic quarterback completed 22 of 44 attempts for 188, two touchdowns and an interception. Nick Barca ran for 24 yards on 13 carries to lead the Bobcats, who ran for -6 yards on 25 attempts.

John Carroll 45, Wisconsin Stevens Point 21

STEVENS POINT, WIS.

Joh Carroll quarterback Sam Kukura threw three touchdowns and ran for a score. Evan Nugent caught three passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns. The JCU defense limited the Pointers to 79 yards rushing on 29 carries. Although UWSP gained 302 yards passing, the Blue Streaks came up with three interceptions, forced two fumbles and finished with four sacks.

Grove City 38, Juniata 23

GROVE CITY, PA.

Dan Melville returned an interception 26 yards and quarterback Randall Labrie ran for a 1-yard touchdown to put Grove City College up 14-0 in the first quarter. Grove City running back Wesley Schools ran 220 and three touchdowns on 34 carries. Labrie completed 14 of 19 passes for 132 yards. He also ran for 21 yards. Austin Montgome threw for 261 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Juniata. The win marks the first Week 1 victory for the Wolverines since 2013.

Duquesne 45, Lock Haven 0

PITTSBURGH

Nehari Crawford caught two touchdown passes and returned a punt for another score and Duquesne defeated Division-II Lock Haven. The Dukes scored first on A.J. Hines’ 28-yard run before Daniel Parr threw 44 yards to Crawford for a TD midway through the first quarter. Crawford scored on a 44-yard punt return early in the second quarter and the Dukes added a 1-yard run by Lucas D’Orazio and Stew Allen’s 9-yard reception to lead 35-0 at halftime. Crawford, with four catches for 104 yards in the first half, made one more catch in the third quarter, a 36-yard score from Brett Brumbaugh. Parr was 10-of-15 passing for 197 yards and two TDs for the Dukes (1-1).
