The popular Color Your World event at the Poland library came back on Aug. 10.
The event, which was run previously by Barb Smith, was taken over by Hayley McEwing after she took over the supervising librarian position.
“It is an trend at libraries, the coloring for adults event,” McEwing said. “It’s interesting because the library itself is not just a place for information but a community place.”
After Smith left, McEwing said that a number of people asked about the event, which encouraged them to bring it back.
“We try to listen to the public, and if there is interest we always try to make it happen,” she said.
The usual event, where adults were invited to come to the library and color while eating a light snack, was given a twist.
McEwing said that instead of bringing food she wanted to incorporate color theory, and discuss colors as energy and its relationship with the chakras during the event.
“It’s just a suggestion, just some information about colors and energy that some people may find interesting,” she said.
McEwing included a slide show accompanied by music that related to the chakras.
She encouraged those in attendance to focus on the color related to the track as it went through the album.
After a brief presentation, those in attendance began to color on their own and listen to the music.
“That’s what we want to do, not just information but to have a positive community gathering place.” McEwing said.
McEwing said that using a new list feature on the libraries web site said was able to compile all of the books she gathered relating to color theory, color as energy and the chakras.

“All of these materials they are welcome to check out when ever, but if for some reason they did not want to today they can always check the list and get more information,” she said.
