$50K to buy church

YOUNGSTOWN

The city’s board of control Thursday approved the $50,000 purchase of a former church to be used as part of the $20 million chill-can plant being built on the East Side.

The board agreed to buy the former Immaculate Conception Church, 811 Oak St. It has been closed for several years.

The church would be demolished by Joseph Co. International, which is building a chill-can plant, said T. Sharon Woodberry, the city’s community planning and economic development director.

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and the staff of Project MKC announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the new organization headquarters located at 6961 Southern Blvd., Suite A.

Founded in 2010 and formerly known as Making Kids Count, Project MKC is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting children and families in need by providing positive experiences and equipping children with everyday necessities.

The organization recently moved into a new office and warehouse facility to accommodate its growing programs and services.

Lordstown workers will travel to rally

Some workers who are laid off from the General Motors Lordstown plant will be traveling to Murphysboro, Ill., this weekend for President Donald Trump’s rally there.

The Lordstown workers, organized by Good Jobs Nation and joined by other workers, will have a pre-rally news conference as part of the “Promises Broken” pickup truck tour.

They will be there to “call out Trump’s broken promises to working people,” according to a news release from Good Jobs Nation.

The group is protesting offshoring by federal contractors.

The rally is Saturday at the Southern Illinois Airport.

3Q income down

CORTLAND

Cortland Bancorp, the holding company for Cortland Savings and Banking Co., reported net income of $2 million for the third quarter of 2018, down from $2.1 million in the third quarter of 2017.

Average total loans grew 16 percent to $474 million from $407 million for Q3 in 2017.

Average total deposits grew 6 percent to $557 million from Q3 in 2017.

A quarterly cash dividend of $0.11 per share will be payable Dec. 3 to shareholders of record on Nov. 12.

Chamber meeting

The Girard Chamber of Commerce will have a meeting Nov. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Amen Corner on West Main Street.

The group seeks to collaborate to revitalize downtown Girard.
