The Canfield Village Middle School eighth-grade band, under the direction of CVMS Band Director James Volenik, got to experience what it will be like to be a member of the Cardinal High School marching band on Oct. 19.

Members of the middle school band joined members of the high school band during both the pre-game and halftime performances at the Canfield Cardinals versus the Howland Tigers football game at Bob Dove Field.

The 49 eighth-graders were invited to perform “The Hey Song” and “Hang on Sloopy” during the marching band’s pre-game performance and then “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” during the halftime performance.

“This night is to give the students the opportunity to experience what next year will be like with the Cardinal Pride marching band. We also had a rehearsal today for a couple hours with the high school band members. The band parents organized a lunch for everyone so the eighth-graders could meet the high school kids and mingle with them and ask any questions. It was nice for the kids to be able to get together,” Volenik said.
