Lior Sternfeld, author of “Between Iran and Zion: Jewish Histories of Twentieth Century Iran,” will lecture at 5:30 p.m. today at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 W. The Youngstown chapter of SCORE will sponsor a presentation about the Jewish community’s contributions to the area’s economic life at 9 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave. Thomas Welsh, co-author of “A History of Jewish Youngstown and the Steel Valley,” will discuss the impact of Jewish entrepreneurs on local business and industry.

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering an adult creative writing course titled “Real Life in Fiction” on Thursday, Nov. 1, 8 and 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The focus of this course, taught by local author William R. Soldan, will be writing fiction inspired by real life experience. Students will learn how tapping into their memories and personal histories can not only spark ideas for stories but also make those stories more vivid and authentic. The Mahoning Valley Accounting Society will host an accounting and auditing update seminar Friday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St. The presenter for the seminar will be Peter Woodlock, CPA, PhD. Registration will take place at 8 a.m.; the seminar will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $179 for members and $199 for nonmembers and includes lunch. Student organization to host fundraiser

Youngstown State University Guinathon and the Department of Nursing will host a Haunted Hospital fundraiser for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Oct. 31 in Cushwa Hall (Room 2410) at YSU. Guinathon is a student organization that raises funds and awareness for children in the community. It is partnered nationally with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and works to help children who are undergoing treatment at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. At this event, students and faculty join hospital personnel and Miracle Families to stand and dance for those kids at the hospital who can’t.

Protestant Family Service will sponsor a “Feast of Salads & Fashions” fundraiser at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave. Doors will open at 10. A basket auction will take place with proceeds benefiting the mission of serving the community.
