Trial underway for man charged with illegal possession of a gun

YOUNGSTOWN — Trial is underway today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court before Judge Anthony D’Apolito for a man accused of having a stolen gun as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Joseph Grove, 31, of East Auburndale Avenue, was arrested March 5 on Delaware Avenue after a police officer noticed a car he was driving was backing in and out of several drives. The officer investigated and after detaining Grove on a drug charge, found a gun in a trash can where he pulled his car in near a driveway.

The gun was reported stolen out of Boardman. Grove has several previous felony convictions that bar him from owning a firearm.
