Howland senior gets high scores

HOWLAND

Howland High School senior Robert Moosally has been recognized for exceptional academic promise after receiving one of the highest scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of 1.6 million students who completed the exam in 2017, Moosally is one of 50,000 studnets identified as having one of the top scores and has been named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Moosally hopes to major in computer science in college in order to fulfill is aspiration of becoming the director of an IT department. At HHS, he is co-president of the Interact Club and a member of the National Honor Society. He plays trumpet in the school’s marching band, is a member of the concert band and has played in the music pit for the school’s musical.

Howland vocalist to perform at Disney

A member of Howland High School’s choir has been selected by the National Association for Music Education to sing in the 2018 All-National Honor Ensemble at Disney’s Coranado Springs Resort in November.

Samuel Darrin is a three-year member of the school’s choir, the Howland Chamber Choir and Another Way, the Howland Pop A Capella Ensemble. He is also a two-year member of the Ohio Music Education Association All-State Honors Choir and Kent State All Star Honors Choir as well as a one-year member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus Honors Choir.

Darrin has received the highest marks as a soloist and instrumentalist in the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest. He is a four-year member of the Howland High School band and serves as its president. He is a third-year member of the Symphonic Band as 1st-chair trombone player and is drum major for the Tiger Marching Band. He also is 1st-chir trombonist with the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra, is president of the school’s drama club and is a member of the Howland United Methodist Church choir and praise band. He also assists the Warren Civic Chorus Children’s Choir.

Induction ceremony will take place Oct. 27

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University Athletics Department will induct seven new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday. The event will take place at 10 a.m. in the Chestnut Room of YSU’s Kilcawley Center with a buffet breakfast and the ceremony begins at 10:30.

The Hall of Fame class includes Bethany Anderson, McKenzie Bedra, Codera Jackson, Ryan Jewell, Anthony Mitchell, Chad Shultz and James Terry. To purchase tickets, call Rebecca Fink at 330-941-2283.

School will host parent night

CANFIELD
