GIRLS TENNIS

Local state tennis qualifiers eliminated in first round

MASON

The Mahoning Valley’s state tennis qualifiers’ stay at the Lindner Family Tennis Center was short.

Canfield’s doubles team of Cece Economus and Sydney Cianciola, Canfield singles qualifier Anna Kan and Ursuline’s doubles team of Lexie Tsudis and Vy Hoang all lost in the first round and were eliminated on Friday.

Economus and Cianciola were defeated by Mason’s Sanjana Reddy and Ananya Aggarwal 6-2, 6-1 in the Division I doubles bracket. Kan lost to Cincinnati Turpin’s Caitlin Fisher 6-0, 6-2 in the Division I singles tournament. While Tsudis and Hoang fell to Gahanna Columbus Academy’s Carmen Merkel and Lauren Motta 6-1, 6-2 in the Division II doubles tournament.

GIRLS GOLF

Poland finishes 11th in first round of state tournament

Poland girls golf came in 11th out of 12 teams in the first round of the Division I state tournament at Ohio State Golf Clubs’ Gray Course in Columbus. The Bulldogs shot a 68-over 348.

Marlie Mcconnell led the Bulldogs with a 14-over 84 and is tied for 41st. Jenna Jacobson and Carly Ungaro each shot an 86 to tie for 47th. Elena Cammack shot a 22-over 92 and Gianna Myers ended with a 24-over 94 to round out the Bulldogs’ scoring.

Ne w Albany leads with a 20-over 300.

Delaware Olentangy Berlin’s Leila Raines and Centerville’s Marissa Wenzler are tied for the lead with a 1-under 69.
