Trick-or-Treat in Austintown will take place on Oct. 31 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Have a safe and fun Halloween!
Neighborhood Trick-or-Treat even to take place
The second Schenley Avenue Haunt will take place on Oct. 31 from 6-10 p.m. This is a Trick-or-Treat event that is being offered again after the success of the 2017 event. This year will be bigger and better with a costume contest for the best boy and girl costumes, photo board, new animatronics, scarioke (karaoke with Halloween music) and more. Halloween fun and more offered at Austintown Bounce party
Austintown Bounce, located at 4317 Kirk Road in Austintown, will host a Halloween party on Oct. 28 from 5-7 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes a hot dog, small fountain drink, treat bag (while supplies last), Halloween parade, unlimited play, games, prizes and more. There will also be concession items available for purchase. Socks are required to bounce and no face paint or sharp objects will be allowed. No coupons or passes will be allowed. This event is sponsored by Home Savings Bank on Kirk Road.
Craft and vendor show to be Oct. 20
Br. 22 Ladies, The Saxon Club, located at 710 S. Meridian Road in Youngstown, will have their annual craft and vendor show on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Saxon Club. It will take place in the large hall, and food and drinks will be available.
Austintown to host community-wide flu clinic
Austintown Local Schools will host a community-wide Flu Immunization Clinic on Oct. 26 through a partnership with Steward Health Care. The clinic will take place from 7-9 p.m in the mobile medical van, parked at Greenwood Falcon Stadium on the home side near the finish line pavilion. This clinic is open to the public for anyone at least 6-years of age. Payment options are $25 without insurance or insurances are being accepted. Movie night
Bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during this movie on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Austintown library. The movie will be a newly released DVD rated PG or G for the family. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Local studio hosts auditions for “The Great Russian Nutcracker”
Ruth’s Dance and Fitness Co. LLC, located at 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Suite 100A, was chosen as the host studio for “The Great Russian Nutcracker” with The Moscow Ballet, and auditions will take place on Oct. 20 at Ruth’s Dance & Fitness Co. LLC. The audition is open to ballet dancers in the community who are ages 6-18 who may be interested in performing in the ballet. Check in time and registration will start promptly at 10:30 a.m. and auditions will start at 11:30 a.m. starting with the youngest children first. Students will need to stay for a few hours because they may be double cast in two roles. If chosen, students will need to be available on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. to rehearse with the Russian dancers. Rehearsals may go into late afternoon on Oct. 21, but students may leave when they are finished learning the choreography of the pieces they have been cast in. Also, if chosen to be in “The Great Russian Nutcracker,” students will need to pay a casting fee of $50. The final performance will take place at DeYor Performing Arts Center on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. The dress rehearsal and the performance will take place on the same day.

Join the Austintown library on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and they’ll take you step-by-step to create your very own work of art. Space is limited. Sean T. Posey, local author and historian, will discuss the historical theaters of Mahoning Valley on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Austintown library. Posey is the author of “Historical Theaters of Mahoning Valley.”
The Mighty Uke
View the movie “The Mighty Uke: The Amazing Comeback of a Musical Underdog” and explore the history and resurgence of this musical instrument at the Austintown library on Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. Reservations are needed. This event is for adults.

Audobon Society to have presentation on Oct. 23
Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Famous People and their Fowl Obsessions” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Canfield library. From political and sports figures to actors, music composers and Nobel prize winners, this presentation looks at famous people who are also birdwatchers, with some surprising and interesting facts thrown in, and the impact that their bird watching has had on their careers, their private lives and perhaps yours as well. The speaker, Dwight Chasar, a retired Akron-area industrial research organic chemist, will also identify birds that these famous people favored in their hobby.
Local DQ hosts pumpkin hunt on Oct. 27
The Austintown Dairy Queen, located at 146 N. Canfield Niles Road, will host a free pumpkin hunt on Oct. 27 at noon for children who are ages 2-9 years-old. The event will feature candy, prizes, mini pumpkins, a costume contest and more. Decorate pumpkins the DQ way. Fall Senior Citizens Dinner to be Oct. 24
Food, entertainment and more are in store for Austintown seniors, 65 and older, on Oct. 24 for the Fall Senior Citizens Dinner. Board members, student groups and school staff will serve dinner during this bi-annual event at 4 p.m. in the Fitch High School cafeteria. Students from the high school choir, band and orchestra will entertain guests throughout the dinner. Tickets for the senior dinner are $2 and advance reservations are required. Local retired teachers association to have Nov. 14 meeting
Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet on Nov. 14 at Drake’s Landing in Canfield. The social hour will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch at 11:45 a.m., followed by the meeting and program. Susan Harris will preside. The American Legion will present colors in honor of Veteran’s Day. Scholarship chairperson Sonia Tsvetkoff will introduce and present MRTA’s scholarships to YSU School of Education students. Deana DeLuca will present a program on “Mindfulness and Meditation.” This month’s community service project will be donations to the Canfield Veterans Auxiliary. Grilled chicken salad or the buffet, which will feature roasted turkey, will be served. All area educators are invited to attend. Friendly Squares dance in November
The Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance on Nov. 10 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be cuing line dances. The theme for the dance is Veterans. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual and light refreshments will be served. This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a care giver. Join the Austintown library every Thursday in October at 10 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play.

Join the Austintown library on Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. This is a holiday program and children may attend in costume. This event is for children who are ages 2-3.

Make a craft to take home during regular hours throughout October at the Austintown library. This event is for children of all ages.
Gamblers Anonymous meetings
A meeting of Gamblers Anonymous will take place on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. Another G.A. meeting will take place on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (Cornersburg). There is no charge for the meetings, although collections are taken up at each meeting to provide for coffee, sugar and creamer, treats and free literature. The average contribution given by members at most meetings is $2. Meetings last about one and a half hours and are both closed meetings, or, you must have suffered from a gambling addiction to attend. The Youngstown-area G.A. groups are friendly and welcoming and established members love to see new members join the fold. They are more than happy to help suffering gamblers and are knowledgeable about how to stay clean from this dreadful disease.

Immaculate Heart of Mary hosts BINGO event
Every second Wednesday of the month, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church will host a special BINGO event. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and games will begin at 10:05 a.m. A master set costs $10 and no sales will be available after 10 a.m. Eight games will be played with a 60/40 split with the last game being a winner take all coverall. The Hopewell Theatre announces a diverse 2018-19 season
The Hopewell Theatre recently announced its 2018-19 season, promising a lineup of contemporary, well-known shows, including two musicals. The Hopewell Theatre is located at 702 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown. Upcoming shows are: Oct. 19-28 - “Twilight Zone,” Dec. 7-15 - “Snoopy, the Musical,” Jan. 4-13 - “Sea Horse,” Feb. 15-24 - “Raisin in the Sun,” March 29-April 7 - “Godspell,” May 10-19 - “Deathtrap” and June 7-16 - “On Golden Pond.” Flex passes are on sale for six shows for $60 for adults and $42 for seniors/students.
