“The Conners” (8 p.m., ABC): The much-anticipated series premiere of this sitcom, a spinoff of the rebooted but quickly canceled “Roseanne.” After a sudden turn of events (which no doubt will explain the disappearance of Roseanne Barr), the Conner family is forced to face the daily struggles of life in a way they never have before.

“The Rookie” (10 p.m., ABC): Starting over isn’t easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being a police officer, on the premiere episode of this drama. As the force’s oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.
