Youngstown

Joel Kreuzwieser of Canfield, a senior at Ursuline High School, has been selected to perform a solo piano recital at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh as a young artist of the Steinway Society of Western PA. Kreuzwieser will perform Feb. 16, 2019, just before a performance by the Pittsburgh Symphony. He auditioned for the honor along with dozens of pianists from western Pennsylvania and neighboring states.

Kreuzwieser is a top-ten student at UHS and placed first in the Ohio Music Teachers Association’s District Buckeye Auditions in April, becoming the first pianist from the Youngstown area in more than a decade to appear as a finalist at the state auditions in June. He also was awarded an honorable mention at the Allegheny College Unusual Combinations Piano Competition last November and was featured artist in June at the Boardman United Methodist Church Community Concert Series. He has studied piano with local pianist/organist Sean Baran of Boardman since 2011.
