Free lecture on David Bowie film

YOUNGSTOWN

Musicology professor Katherine Reed will give a free lecture on “David Bowie’s Lost Film: Hunger City in 1984” at 4 p.m. Friday in room 3036 of Bliss Hall, on the Youngstown State University campus.

Following his success as Ziggy Stardust, Bowie turned his attention to adapting George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984.” That plan spawned 1974’s “Diamond Dogs” album, a tour, and a plan for a feature film. Using previously unstudied notes from Bowie and his creative team, Reed’s lecture reconstructs the staging of that tour and the planned film.

Reed, who teaches at California State University, Fullerton, is a graduate of YSU.
