Brian Lewerke threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Felton Davis with 19 seconds left to lift Michigan State past No. 8 Penn State. Lewerke completed 25 of 52 passes for 259 yards with an interception and two touchdowns for the Spartans. Davis, who came back from an injury he sustained on the previous drive, finished with eight catches for 100 yards. Miles Sanders ran for 162 yards and a touchdown for the Nittany Lions and Trace McSorley completed 19 of 32 passes for 192 yards with a touchdown to become the program’s all-time passing yardage leader.
No. 12 Michigan 38, No. 15 Wisconsin 13
ANN ARBOR, MICH.
Shea Patterson accounted for 214 yards of offense and a touchdown, leading No. 12 Michigan to a victory over No. 15 Wisconsin. The Wolverines (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten) beat a ranked conference team for the first time since topping the Badgers two years ago. Patterson was 14 of 21 for 124 yards and ran for a career-high 90 yards and a score on nine carries. Alex Hornibrook was 7 of 20 for 100 yards with one touchdown pass with 3:47 left. He threw two interceptions. Michigan’s Karan Higdon ran for 105 yards and a score that broke a scoreless tie early in the second quarter. Jonathan Taylor ran for 101 yards 17 carries.
Iowa 42, Indiana 16
BLOOMINGTON, IND.
Nate Stanley threw for 320 yards and a season-high six touchdowns, and the Iowa Hawkeyes beat the Indiana Hoosiers. Stanley completed 21 of 33 throws. In the first quarter, Stanley threw an interception, but a pass interference call negated the turnover, setting up a 9-yard touchdown pass to TJ Hockenson. Two Iowa tight ends accounted for 208 of Stanley’s 320 passing yards, with Noah Fant finishing the game with 101 yards and Hockenson totaling 107 yards. Indiana quarterback Peyton Ramsey finished with one touchdown and two interceptions, completing 31 of 42 pass attempts for 263 yards.
Northwestern 34, Nebraska 31 OT
EVANSTON, ILL.
Clayton Thorson threw for 455 yards and three touchdowns, and Drew Luckenbaugh kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime to give Northwestern a victory Nebraska. Nebraska blew a 10-point lead in the final 5:41 in regulation and fell to 0-6 for the first time ever. Flynn Nagel set career highs with 220 yards receiving and two touchdowns for the Wildcats. Nebraska’s Devine Ozigbo ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Adrian Martinez threw for 251 yards and a TD. JD Spielman caught eight passes for 76 yards receiving and a TD.
Maryland 34, Rutgers 7
COLLEGE PARK, MD.
Kasim Hill threw three touchdown passes, Ty Johnson ran for 132 yards and Maryland had five interceptions against woeful Rutgers in a victory. Rutgers (1-6, 0-4) lost its sixth straight. Freshman quarterback Artur Sitkowski was pulled late in the third quarter after going 2 for 16 for 8 yards and four interceptions. Johnson’s 65-yard touchdown run in the first quarter started the onslaught, and Hill added a pair of touchdown throws in the second.
Purdue 46, Illinois 7
CHAMPAIGN, ILL.
Purdue rolled over Illinois, dampening the Illini homecoming festivities and dimming their postseason hopes. Illinois began the game scoring on a five-yard keeper by quarterback AJ Bush following a 52-yard pass to Reggie Corbin. D. J. Knox gained 150 yards rushing on 17 carries for the Boilermakers. Markell Jones had seven carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Bush finished 12 of 25 for 170 yards passing and one interception. Bush also was the Illini’s leading rusher, gaining 24 yards on 20 carries. David Blough finished the day 25-of-36 passing for 377 yards and three touchdowns.
