Boardman’s Mitchel Dunham raced to a third place finish out of 349 competitors to lead Boardman High School to a fifth place finish at the 11th annual Andrews-Osborne Academy Invitational on Oct. 6 in Willoughby.
The Spartans finished behind former Federal League rival and state ranked Jackson as well as state ranked Mentor along with Geneva and Painesville Riverside and improved their 2018 record to 109-58.
“This was not our best day,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “Jackson and Mentor are outstanding programs and are two of the best in Ohio, we need to challenge those teams if we want to re-establish ourselves as one of the top programs in Northeast Ohio.”
The Spartan junior varsity team placed fifth on Oct. 6 and finished their season with a record of 85-43.
The scorers for the junior varsity were senior Andrew Beichner, senior Cameron Maloney, junior Steven Moradian, freshman Ben Alvarico and sophomore Michael Halchuck - who was the only Spartan to set a new personal best time at 19:26.
