Junior Mitchel Dunham took second overall out of 250 runners on Sept. 29 at The U Wanna Come Back Invitational at Madison High School.
Dunham’s time of 16:20 tied an earlier season mark and ranks him #17 All Time in Boardman High School history.
The Spartans improved their 2018 record to 104-54 with this third place finish.
Aiding in Boardman’s score was sophomore Frank Bero in fifth place at a career best time of 16:42 followed by classmate Justin Maloney in 23rd place at a new personal best time of 17:51. Next up were sophomores Anthony Marshall and Caydin Newberry in 28th and 29th place at identical times of 17:59-a new career best for Marshall.
“We had a great day,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Over two-thirds of our athletes ran career-bests today and we are starting to really see huge improvements from our underclassmen and runners that are first year members of the program.”
The Spartan junior varsity team improved its 2018 mark to 78-39. The team was led by junior River Flatley in a time of 18:08, freshman Ben Alvarico in a new career best time of 18:13, senior Payton Torres in a new personal best time of 18:50, junior Zander Schobel in a new career record of 19:28, and freshman Jack Graff in a new personal record of 19:28.
Setting new personal bests at Madison were seniors Torres and Cameron Maloney at 18:14; juniors Dunham, Schobel and Alan Cuevas at 19:29; sophomores Bero, Maloney, Marshall, Beau Gorby at 18:13 and Johnny Gabriele at 19:39, and freshmen Alvarico, Graff, Jake Blazina at 22:08, Dan Chiaberta at 21:25, Aiden Chunn at 21:47, Josh Cubarrubia at 22:10 and Noah Shurell at 21:30.
