Boardman High School hosted its annual spirit week celebration.

The school had a daily special dress event that was a competition between the grades.

Monday was a “home run” theme, where students wore sports apparel. On Tuesday, students wore pajamas. On Wednesday, each class dressed in a specific color. Thursday was a “home away from home” theme, where students wore tourist clothing, and on Friday students wore maroon and white.

“I think that it just reminds them how important school spirit is,” said Assistant Principal Anne Bott.

During the spirit week dress day’s each grade had a competition to see who had the most spirit.

The points were tallied at the end of the week during the schools annual homecoming pep rally.

The pep rally was organized by the schools senior council, with help from the Spirit Crew who organized the theme of the football game.

“The Spirit crew, they’re fairly new, but its good they rally the kids at the games they lead cheers,” Bott said. “It’s fun. They have the flags that they run around the track with during the game.”

The pep rally is to get students hyped for the homecoming football game, which took place on Friday afternoon.

During the pep rally different grade levels continued to compete in both a relay race and a tug of war competition.

Members of the homecoming court also had a lip sync competition during the rally.

“I love the way our community is in Boardman. I think its exciting,” Bott said.

She explained that not only do all of the students at BHS attend the pep rally, but alumni and parents are encouraged to as well.

“Its a community event,” Bott said. “I think its pretty close-knit here and I like that.”

The Spirit Crew organized a “pink out” for the game according to Bott in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Students wear pink and cheerleaders have pink ribbons in their hair to support the cause.

During the homecoming game, per tradition, the homecoming queen was crowned at half time.

The dance took place that Saturday night, ending the spirit week and homecoming events.

“Its very exciting I think the kids always have fun,” Bott said.
