YOUNGSTOWN
The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., will present Slovene artist Eva Petric and her art performance “Eden, Transplanted,” to highlight the 50-year anniversary of the first successful human heart transplant and the first successful coronary bypass heart surgery.
The art performance is in conjunction with Petric’s multimedia installation, “white wHole,” which will be on view.
This one-day event will take place Sunday in the newly named Bacon Great Hall inside The Butler North Education Center (the former church structure next to the museum). A meet-the-artist reception will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. during which the artist will execute her performance art piece.
Admission to the exhibition, reception, performance and the museum is free.
Petric last visited he Butler in 2016 with her lace installation exhibition titled “IN between UNIVERSES.”
Petric will also visit Trumbull Art Gallery, 158 N. Park Ave., Warren, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday for a reception. She is creating two lace assemblages for TAG’s window gallery.
“White wHole” deals with the themes of borders and values in our personal and social relationships, as well as our relationship with planet Earth, and the incessant construction and deconstruction of these relationships.
It is composed of an audio and video piece projected onto a large lace assemblage. The massive lace assemblage is constructed of hundreds of recycled handmade laces found at flea markets, or donated by people from around the world.
Awarded Best Art Perfromance at the 2017 United Solo Festival in New York, Petric’s “Eden, Transplanted” is the story of a girl named Eva transplanted into outer space on a search of a new home for mankind. On her one-way journey she learns that Earth is the only true “home” and the heart is the gateway to Eden.
The artist divides her time living in New York, Vienna, Austria and Ljubljana, Slovenia. She works in photography, video, performance, installation and writing. For information, go to evapetric.com.
